I worked at Premier Research (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to work; fosters team environment; embraces the mobile device and social media age; pay could have been better.

Premier Research, formerly known as SCIREX, owned two dedicated clinical research centers. For 10 years, I managed the marketing and patient recruitment for these sites. There were times during my 10-year career at Premier that we owned four clinical research sites, so the job was demanding. The medical and vacation benefits were great - I was already accumulating up to 5 weeks of vacation per year by the time I was laid off.

Soon after the company hired a new VP Operations, the decision was made to close the clinical research centers and laid off all of the employees; although the rest of the company is still in operation. Companies make these type of restructuring decisions all the time and I received a decent severance package. I felt it was a good time to make a change.

    Cons

I did not have any support staff and management never approved a request for a dedicated PTE to help ease the workload. Sometimes had to work 50-55 hours/week.

I worked at Premier Research full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very relaxed atmosphere to work in. Not very much pressure unless there are some deadlines to meet. Excellent people to say the least.

    Cons

Pay and management. Pay is not competitive or reasonable for American adults. Unless you are willing to scrape by look elsewhere. Management, upper management to be accurate, is barely communicative.

I have been working at Premier Research full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you have good ideas and are vocal about them you'll be heard. I was able to do great things at my time with the company. The culture is great too - a lot of great friends that are there when you need them.

    Cons

Pay! The CRO industry is extremely price competitive. Be prepared to be paid about 20% less than you could make elsewhere, and be prepared to be given a larger work load than you'd get elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately I completely understand. Paying employees more means getting a lot less business!

I have been working at Premier Research full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Staff is great, everyone gets along fine.

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement and or training for those that are loyal and committed to the company. Politics plays a role on who gets what regardless of your educational background or experience, someone that has been with the company less time and or have no educational back-ground can out beat you for opportunities if their connection has anything to say about it. Instead of promoting with thin, preference is given to favorites. With the economy and the difficulty in find work, you have to stay put until another opportunity comes around.

    Advice to Management

Consider the loyalty and commitment of those employees and offer opportunities for advancements. Think of others before yourself. Maybe your turnover will change for once.

    Pros

Generally, people really care about their jobs and working with their teams. Groups take great pride with quality and customer service. Teams work hard to put out a strong, quality product. Strong global presence. Fair to above-average benefit package.

    Cons

Heavy effort, minimal reward. Very much a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately company. Heavy layoffs in past five years, and very little concern on the toll it takes on current, overworked staff. Hard work and significant overtime to meet overpromised deliverables does not equal job security. Company does not invest in its employees. Constant change in management with curious promotions and layoffs. Very little personal growth and minimal-to-no feedback regarding job evaluation. Not a very positive work environment.
