I have been working at Presbyterian Healthcare Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

For New Mexico employers it doesn't get any better than this. Great leadership team that will continue to help Presbyterian make the right decisions to navigate through the current healthcare industry transformation. Best job mission with great employees who care. Salary and benefits are among the best in New Mexico. They promote living a healthy lifestyle including gym membership as part of the benefits.

    Cons

The annual rhythm (strategic planning and budgeting) needs some realignment so planning activities are placed appropriately relative to annual operating budget planning. The speed of change in the Health plan is also a key driver for realignment. Advice to Management

Leverage the strengths of your people. Build internal expertise for critical functions (you can't outsource accountability). Managers need to hold their people more accountable and be proactive in managing their areas. Make sure you have all critical areas at the leadership table.

I worked at Presbyterian Healthcare Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

PHS has amassed huge resources at their disposal for improving healthcare in NM.

    Cons

Understands the (old) business of healthcare but not the delivery of healthcare. Strange culture of power hoarding, schoolyard bully threats (veiled or explicit), and "watch your back" mentality at the top frequently translates to the frontline to produce a fear-based atmosphere, eroding the compassionate care experience significantly.

    Advice to Management

Culture tone is set at the top. It is fully institutionalized, entrenched. No change in sight.
