Mass layoff of longtime, knowledgeable employees to fit the company's bottom line
Mar 20, 2023 - Anonymous, EngineeringRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
These were the reasons I *used* to love working at Presence: - 100% remote - a culture of trust that remote employees would get the job done (and we did) - excellent colleagues - great benefits and pay Honestly, I had hoped this would be the last stop on my career path.
Cons
- Lack of transparency regarding the company's financial status and need for improvement (this was NEVER mentioned in company-wide meetings, which were always positive to the point of being unrealistically so) - Putting a Chief Product Officer in charge of Engineering hiring and layoff decisions (I have NEVER worked for a company that did this) - Almost 20% of the workforce laid off in one day without warning, including experienced developers, and ALL quality assurance employees who have any experience with the product - Despite the mass layoffs, they are hiring to replace those employees with a handful of "senior"-level candidates to give the appearance of an efficient, high-caliber organization from an org chart perspective - Mass layoffs come at a time when employee teams had just been rearranged to better address company's core initiatives to increase revenue, and one day (...ONE DAY!) after being told by above management that our positions were not in jeopardy
Continue readingThank you for your review. Transparency and employee engagement are core to our business, and we are always working to deliver on this. Our recent reorganization was focused on re-centering our business around our clinical expertise and investing in areas that will enable us to better serve our providers and schools. This was a difficult process, and we appreciate the value that team members have added to Presence during their time with us.

Pros
1. The most obvious pro: This company makes a difference in the lives of children. Full stop. 2. There is a clear line between the organization's mission and the work people do here, at every level. 3. Our network and corporate clinicians are some of the most knowledgeable, wonderful, professionally passionate people I've met. 4. People here are open and willing to change at all levels of the org. 5. I work with enthusiastic, team-oriented professionals, day in and day out. 6. Folks here seek not only to challenge the status quo, but to then roll up their sleeves and build that better way forward. 7. This is a human-centered organization, inside and out. 8. Senior leaders here listen. They don't just hear. 9. I can do/experience/contribute to all of the above and still have the flexibility to take my daughter to school each day.
Cons
The only real cons aren't cons, as much as they're challenges attributable to an organization's growth cycle. Missed communication opportunities, some collaborative gaps, the need to continuously modernize systems and structure, a few legacy-minded holdouts, etc. These are common across all organizations in the competitive business environment. The difference between an organization that succumbs to those challenges and one that meets them with an increasing degree of group efficacy and resilience? See Pros 1-8.

Pros
- Supportive direct management - Good mission, good people
Cons
- Laid off 30% of company without notice - No opportunities for promotions, raises, or bonuses - Leadership is not transparent - Zero perks and incentives - Lack of initiative Recent change in leadership was bad news for the organization. Of the positions they laid off, they are still looking to rehire. This organization that used to once be mission-oriented, is now about office politics and who you know.

We are sorry to hear about your frustrations. We rely on employee feedback to measure the success of our leadership and company. Since 2019, our employee engagement score has consistently stayed above benchmark, and our most recent engagement survey was 17 points higher than benchmark. Additionally, in December, our employees participated in recertifying our “Great Places To Work” status, with 89% of our employees affirming that Presence is a Great Place To Work. We welcome a more interactive conversation with you to more deeply understand your concerns and ensure that we are receiving valued feedback on how to continue to build an inclusive and supportive culture.

Pros
I like the flexibility of working from home and setting my own hours. I love that I can just focus on my students and planning. Paper work is a lot less that working in the schools. I love the therapy platform and ease of doing therapy, taking data, tracking progress etc..
Cons
You are only paid on a 1099 and and not a W2

Lack of Care for Staff
May 15, 2023 - I Would Prefer Not to SayRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Unlimited PTO at the time.
Cons
Sent out a companywide survey as they do annually and one week later, they let go of 40+ people, only to turn around and hire 25 at a much lower salary. Not sure they know how to balance a checkbook. Management doesn't really seem to have any idea what those beneath them truly do.

We value employee feedback. Our bi-annual company engagement survey is one of the ongoing ways we are able to capture feedback and evaluate our culture and employee sentiment year over year. No internal meeting days, employee wellness days, 401k match and expanded leave policies are just a few examples of change driven as a result of feedback received. Our recent restructure is enabling us to recenter our business around our clinical standards and invest where we need to in order to better serve our customers and providers. While we are actively hiring, your suggested numbers and claims are inaccurate - we're happy to have a discussion about recently-filled positions and open roles if you're interested.

Pros
Self-Evolve your own skills because no one is there to give you proper guidance.
Cons
The company did mass layoff from both Sales and Engineering department. Current CPO has no idea of the product, and fired high skilled engineers because he can because he is from Harvard University. The company have huge turned over rate and everyone is leaving the company every week. Unlimited PTO is a complete lie. There is no work-life balance working for this company because the company is too small and demand is more. They are cheap to hire high skill team and have team of 1-2 in each department, and few contractors.

Pros
Work from home opportunity, fairly autonomous work but hands down it’s the people that do the actual work that make it worth it.
Cons
Knowing Presence has staff write positive reviews to drown out the concerns of real reviews is a direct reflection of how this company works. You can only ignore the people that do the work for so long. Now onto the failed initiatives of an inexperienced Leadership team that is so far removed from the mission of the company that they are leading to its demise : Kanga Platform- Fail Salaried Therapist- Fail 3,500 Providers- Fail Asynchronous Interviews- Fail Liaison position-Fail 40+ staff layoffs- Fail Dismantling the Clinical Quality and Resource team- Fail Capacity issues- Fail Record number of Downsells- Fail The smart ones left and the good ones were laid off. The rest of us are just trying to figure out how to jump off this sinking ship.

Our amazing Presence employees and provider network make it possible for us to support students across the country. This year alone, we’ve delivered 550,000 therapy sessions. We're very proud of the work we do! At Presence we encourage a culture of continuous feedback. We do not solicit false reviews. To the contrary, all reviews are voluntary. We regularly collect feedback from employees, providers and customers on multiple forums in an effort to identify areas of opportunities. Real-time and honest feedback help us to innovate and better support our mission. We take all feedback seriously and would like the opportunity to address your specific concerns. We encourage you to reach out to our HR team.
