I have been working at Presque Isle Downs and Casino full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In the past, it would be easy to find pros to work at PID but new management has really turned the place around in a negative way. If I must find one pro to working at PID, I would say that we get free sandwiches and soup. They also offer $5 buffet for employees on Mondays.

    Cons

    Vacation:
They have a good Paid Time Off system in place but the problem is actually being able to use the PTO. You may be approved but then denied your time off which in my experience, leads to burn out quickly.
    Employee Policy:
We have an employee policy in place but does not apply to everybody the same. Example: One employee can call in sick the day before without getting any points and they are not required to bring in a doctors excuse. Another employee can call in sick the day before and they are required to bring in a doctors excuse and if they don't, they will get points and have to use PTO to cover that time off.
    Department Management:
Every department is different so it depends on what department you want to work in. From what I experienced, some department managers are VERY demeaning to most of their employee and are often unapproachable. Communication is a problem with all department management. They tend to 'forget' to tell you important details and then when you fail they will swear they told you to either do or not do the task. Back stabbing is another issue. Management will talk about you behind your back. I can understand venting with other managers if an employee is actually performing badly but they should never talk to other employees about other employee issues!
    Upper Management:
Our CEO.... Mike Tamburelli has not been with the company for over a year, Current CEO is Jeff Favre. I don't know what to say but as being a current employee I'm embarrassed of his actions. Unfortunately he likes to drink which is fine but this activity should not be done at work, he becomes more unprofessional and it really does embarrass the entire staff and customers are talking. I will not go as low as saying what we've experienced but I just wanted to bring this up because it's an issue and he is making the company look bad. I'm sure he is a good person with good intentions but I don't believe the Casino business is for him. Other activities that he does concern me greatly and I've seen our Casino's moral plummet since he has taken over. He will set the 'rules' but then change them without communicating the change. Lets just say he has double standards and I hope he finds his profession elsewhere, something more fitting.

    Advice to Management

CEO - Please stop drinking at work and be more focused on building business and don't micro manage departments . Focus on your directors and hold them accountable.
Department Managers - If you're having a bad day, keep it to yourself. Treat your employee with respect and work on changing your departments moral. You'll be amazed what training your department employees can do. Happy employees equal productive employees.
