I have been working at Preston Pipelines as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

PPI's two greatest attributes are that it is a rapidly growing, respected contractor in the Silicon Valley and that the people there are truly a pleasure to work with. Management especially is filled with respectful and friendly people.

    Cons

From an interns perspective there is no formal training or orientation process one might expect of a larger company. That being said there is a learn as you work mentality coupled with patient mentors that I found incredibly beneficial in learning to operate in the field.

    Pros

Everyone is very helpful when ever you need help. Everyone in the office was very kind and I had great laughs on a daily. The managers will go out of their way to assist you on task.

    Cons

I had to work long work hours.

    Advice to Management

Continue making your current training program stronger.

I have been working at Preston Pipelines full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Family atmosphere, constantly re-evaluating performance standards. The company works hard to provide state of the art programs and tools to help you get your job done more efficiently. Pay is competitive. Lots of extra curricular opportunities if you are open to it. CEO is a great guy who cares about his co-workers.

    Cons

Hours can be long, and some managers are better than others. Being a project engineer can be a challenge, but you need to remember you are new to the company and the industry. You can't have a huge ego.

    Advice to Management

Listen first and react accordingly. Do not choose favorites and try to remain objective in good and bad scenarios.

I worked at Preston Pipelines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Preston is a good company doing good work in the community. The people at Preston, including Mike Preston were great to work with and I was sad to leave. Hard working and interested in helping each other succeed.

    Cons

Preston is a smaller company, with that is going to be a smaller paycheck, and sometimes longer hours to get the work done.

I worked at Preston Pipelines full-time

    Pros

Plenty of work if you need to stay busy, management skills can be developed, field personnel are great folks.

    Cons

Pay was extremely low for industry standard, atrocious hours, constant changes in "team" structures, fraternity-like management style. Technical skills not put to use. Incentives not offered. Out-of-touch leadership.

    Advice to Management

Unwavering chaos is an unmovable barrier to efficiency. While accepting misplaced credit for team successes, acknowledge and take responsibility for your individual shortcomings.

I worked at Preston Pipelines full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team environment, upper management provides great mentoring, great salary in a hard economy, has a really great development plan for new employees, hard work pays off. This is definitely the kind of place where if you work hard you get recognized!

    Cons

It can be hard to get into upper management due to Preston's ability to foster long time employees.

    Advice to Management

Everything was really well run and it was so great being a part of the team. The culture here was so energetic and it was inspiring. So much more than what I was expecting

    Pros

hands on work, some good employees

    Cons

poor salary, no raises, no promotions, no bonuses, no recognition for work, too long of hours

    Advice to Management

give back to the employees that are breaking their backs for you at 50-60hrs per week. when you break down the salaries based on actual hrs worked, most of the PEs would make more in a restaurant.
