I have been working at Pret A Manger part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice and hard working team members.

    Cons

Very bad management. They treat you like a slave. You have zero value for them. They don't recognize your effort. They thread us and show the door if we don't work very fast. So many people are not happy. I wonder what kind of manager training they give that manager treats people like crap. She is new manager, she is trying to get self satisfaction in this way.

    Advice to Management

If they give value to people, they will lose so many good worker. Worker circulation costs much more than bonus that should be given for motivation. They need to design kitchen ergonomicly if they want team work faster.

    Pros

    Free disgusting food every day

    Cons

The kitchen staff is treated like slaves. They are expected to do the impossible. The upper management is a bunch of heartless, evil British monsters that take credit for all the positives and assign blame for all the negatives. None of them even eat the food at the shop, because they know how disgusting it truly is.

The store claims to be fresh and natural, but everything is shipped to the store in plastic bags. The soup is cooked at some factory and dispensed in paper cups by the slaves. The chicken is grilled somewhere else and shipped in slimy bags. Then they coat it in mayonnaise or some other sauce so you can't tell how low quality it is. Nothing is sliced fresh, it is all pre-sliced. Everything is over priced and you are forced to act like a happy jack-ass or your pay is cut. No, really. You don't get paid your full hourly rate if you don't impress the "mystery shopper". This place is what hell must be like.

    Advice to Management

Quit your jobs and go back to England and stay there.

    Pros

    Opportunities for growth
    Thorough training for all positions

    Cons

Managers and leaders can become a little unreasonable. They can switch the shop goals and priorities from one hour to the next even they feel even slight pressure from management which causes frustration throughout the team.

I have been working at Pret A Manger full-time

    Pros

Free food, good coffee, company parties, some nice people

    Cons

-Racist, non-inclusive environment that upper management and hr are fully aware of but ignore. The use of the "N word" and many other racial slurs are common every day. You wonder how some of these people got hired into a customer service job.
-Very political when it comes to treatment of certain employees
-Unprofessional and low class work environment, with coworkers treating each other horribly, and also being disrespectful and rude to customers. Sexual harassment is also common.
-Terrible management training program for new hires. Very little follow through and proper instruction in the shop. You're basically on your own. Some decent classes at the training center with good instructors but there are very few of those.
-Most outside manager hires and many other employees come from traditional fast food and are really unprofessional and have very low management skills
