    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Prince George County Public Schools (VA) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

culture, community feel, colleagues, professional development - generally a great place to work; welcoming to new teachers and help you make improvements

    Cons

long hours, expectations are high, which is good - but it can be overwhelming when you are struggling to maintain classroom duties and are asked to help out in other areas

    Advice to Management

Ask the veteran teachers to help out with extra activities outside of the classroom - rather than rookie teachers who are overwhelmed with trying to lesson plan and grade every weekend

    Pros

I had some supportive colleagues and I was able to use my creativity to help the children.

    Cons

The School Board Office is out of touch with the modern classroom and the needs of it's children and staff.

    Advice to Management

Be open to listening to the concerns of it's employees. Be more genuine about finding a solution. Get to know the students in order to better assess and accommodate their needs.

    Pros

    Access to school board office
Great HSA to go along with high deductible insurance
    Experience with military families
Enhance speaking and writing skills due to the overload of meetings and testing

    Cons

    Overworked
    Lack of inclusive classrooms
    No support
Selective in education laws they follow
Favoritism (most employees are related/ friends)
Can only advance if you know someone
Teachers teach subjects they do not have endorsements for
High turnover rate especially in the special education department

    Advice to Management

Start caring about all of the teachers not just the ones you know.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Prince George County Public Schools (VA) (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong staff unity in area schools. Plenty of diversity among students and languages. Class sizes are no more than 27 students.

    Cons

Too much testing for data and not enough instructional time. System poorly organized. Should have other language skills outside of English. It will help you better to meet the needs of Non-English students.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to hire more Spanish speaking teachers or teachers with bi-lingual skills. Administration (most) needs to place in practice better organizational skills.
