I have been working at Prince George's Community College

    Pros

I have worked at many colleges and universities, and PGCC is the best. The students are very hard working, and the team of professors and administrators I work with is outstanding. I love working here.

    Cons

The facility is old and not modern. There has been a significant and well spent investment in technology, which is great. The buildings are reminiscent of high school.

    Pros

Talented faculty & staff. Lots of facility improvements underway.

    Cons

Senior administrators, VP and Pres, are back stabbers and are ripping-off PGCC students and county tax payers by giving themselves huge buy-outs and retirement sweet heart deals then rehiring themselves on extension contracts. They are double and triple dipping on the public dime. State and County elected leaders need to send in the auditors to find out exactly how tax payer dollars are being ripped-off. Then... put an end to it!

I worked at Prince George's Community College

    Pros

PGCC is a very well organized and run local community college. It's a nice place to work though it really depends on the department you work under. It is very modern (classrooms, buildings, software, etc.) for a suburban, minority majority community college.

    Cons

People never leave this place. I say that's a negative because it makes it hard to effect change. Plus, people bring their relatives on board so basically the college is run by different families from PGCC. Some of the managers are absolutely terrible, but no one seems to care. That is the biggest problem. No one is picking the weeds out.

    Advice to Management

Moral is very, very low in some departments. You have turned a blind eye if it doesn't affect you directly. What a shame because you have lost and will continue to lose outstanding staff. In some cases, the patients are running the show.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Prince George's Community College for more than a year

    Pros

PGCC is a vibrant workplace where there are several types of people and activities occurring each day. No matter what department, all the employees seem to care for their jobs and work diligently. The students are pretty respectful as well. I enjoyed sharing ideas with other instructors.

    Cons

There are a lot of classes available but not enough fulltime positions. Although adjunct pays a good hourly rate, it lacks in consistency. To become fulltime you almost have to be hired for that need from the beginning, It is rare a fulltime opening is available.

    Advice to Management

Stand up for adjuncts in helping them work a more stable and consistent schedule.

I have been working at Prince George's Community College full-time

    Pros

Not only is PGCC a good institution to learn the basics of working, but the perks are nice as well. Primarily, as a student, you receive discounted tuition. The health benefits are also a blessing.

    Cons

The sense of organization and interdepartmental communication can be greatly improved. Despite being a large institution, the right hand needs to have a good idea what the left hand is doing and vice versa so that less time and energy is wasted.

I worked at Prince George's Community College

    Pros

Good pay for the job I did and the amount of work expected of me. Got to interact with the students and staff of all levels.

    Cons

This probably isn't typical of the entire PGCC but in the library, workers are not real enjoyable. They seemed to come off as snobbish. No real training. Little to no advancement opportunities. Fellow co-worker was there for 5 years before they offered her a full-time position.

    Advice to Management

Offer training by management. Having a fellow co-worker do it only suffices when they know how everything works. more advancement opportunities.
