I worked at Prince Georges County Public Schools (MD) full-time

    Pros

Flexible and pretty good pay for part-time work.

    Cons

Not worth it to be a long term substitute as the pay is no where near worth the amount of work you will have to put in as a teacher.

    Advice to Management

Increase the long-term substitute teacher since they have to fulfill the same duties and responsibilities as a contracted teacher.

  4. "High turnover of principals."

I worked at Prince Georges County Public Schools (MD) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Competitive Salaries increase with each year of experience. Time off. Benefits.

    Cons

Many of the principals are rookies, making rookie errors. Human resources does damage control but mistakes were and are made.

    Advice to Management

Train new principals in the basics of Human Resources law and policies. Explain each contract to them. Explain disability laws to them and hold them accountable. Too many of the lower-performing schools have teachers who are loyal and dedicated but not getting their basic (for instance, physical) needs met in the workplaces that are hard-to-staff and so have a high turnover of principals. The high turnover of principals makes it very difficult for dedicated teachers to maintain their devotion and momentum as they age. This is systemic discrimination, to the detriment of our community.

I worked at Prince Georges County Public Schools (MD) part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I liked the fact that the position was flexible. I also enjoyed traveling to the different schools. Lastly, I enjoyed the different people that I got to meet.

    Cons

The children were extremely disrespectful to me and the instructors that belong to the school. I was not able to help the children that actually wanted to learn due to the disruptive behavior of the other children that really did not want to be there.

    Advice to Management

There really needs to be smaller classes. The instructors need to be educated enough to actually be able to help the students with schoolwork. Parents, also, need to be more involved in their children's school affairs.
