I worked at Princess Cruise Lines full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The majority of the people care. If you prove your value and have a good attitude it can be great.

    Cons

First thoughts - slave ship. Low pay, intensely demanding work loads. But appearances can be deceiving. The corporate structure is designed to keep profits and pay for the top up. Increases are available but you have to fight for them.

    Advice to Management

Stay involved in the daily, stay tough but caring, help the good workers improve their pay grade.

I have been working at Princess Cruise Lines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

provides career advancement training in house
    Benefits package comparable
    Contributes to local community

    Cons

    Manages from the top down
lacks policy and procedure guideline for project management
Top brass out of touch with actual work environment issues
Very Top heavy in Manager and above positions

    Advice to Management

    Manage from the bottom up
provide tools and information, then let hands on workers do what you hired them to do
Question management on issues for management problems first
Dis allow micro management of any kind, even by policy if necessary
Provide mandatory people skills management training geared toward hands off management style
Pay closer attention to the culture and values you instituted at upper management levels

I have been working at Princess Cruise Lines full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The overall company and brand is great. The office is nice and so is the lunchroom. There's coffee machines and tea and hot chocolate on every floor. The employees are very nice and friendly.

    Cons

The supervisors in CVP and Direct Sales micromanage every last detail and you feel like you are treated like you're in kindergarten. Pay is very low for the industry.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and pay them more and you might have much less turnover.

    Pros

The product, brand, and company is great. Free coffee and tea is nice and so is the lunchroom. Nice office location.

    Cons

The supervisors micromanage and you feel like you're in prison or elementary school. The pay is low and the goals are unreasonably high.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and pay them more and you might not have such high turnover.

I worked at Princess Cruise Lines full-time

    Pros

    -9/80 schedule
    -relaxed environment w minimal OT
    -worked with some GREAT individuals
    -good location near the mall

    Cons

-way too many POLITICS. Promotions based on relationships with those in senior positions rather than based on qualifications
-mgnt does not value education-you will not be acknowledged or compensated for finishing CPA or masters while at princess
-pay is very low compared to market rate
    -raises are minimal
-health insurance is most expensive I've ever had
    - employees are treated as if disposable and not valued
-not family/child friendly-woman w young children/infants are not given equal opportunities

    Advice to Management

Promote based on qualifications rather than favoritism-especially since politics/favoritism are rampant in finance. Value current employees by paying market rate and offering better raises. The 9/80 does NOT make up for low pay

Great benefits, amazing discounts on travel for you and your friends. One free cruise a year.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Don't treat your people like kindergartners. Have respect for your employees, and they will have respect back.

I have been working at Princess Cruise Lines full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

one of the great things about working for Princess cruises is the travel benefits you receive after working there for 6 months. Great cruise discounts and one free cruise per year.

    Cons

Compensation is very low, you start out at $10 an hour and you're supposed to get a $.50 raise every 6 months but the raises never come on time which can affect your bonus as well if you are in a department that bonuses.

    Advice to Management

it seems that management is very quick to treat their employees like children rather than adults.

I worked at Princess Cruise Lines as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was a legal intern at Princess Cruises and enjoyed my time there. The work itself was a little dull, pretty much document review, but the people were fun and interesting to be around. Also, it seems like the company really cares about the product and wants to create a great experience for its customers, which is always a plus. I also really liked the 9/80 work week at the Valencia offices, which mean that you get every other Friday off by working 9 hours a day.

Overall, my coworkers and I were pretty happy to be there and did not have that much to complain about. Plus, for an internship, the pay was good.

    Cons

Sometimes the management is a little dense, but that is to be expected at such a large company. For instance, I think there was a little too much micromanaging, and some instances on doing things the "company" way instead of the efficient way.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you put people in charge that actually have good people skills and know how to lead while being flexible.

I worked at Princess Cruise Lines as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

TRAVEL -- working aboard a cruise ship allows you to see places in the world you may never have even heard about. You get to work with people from over 60 different countries and learn about other cultures. You have the opportunity to prove yourself and advance based on your performance.

    Cons

Work is long days and very hard. Management is generally 4 month contracts but non-management is longer, up to 11 months and you work 7 days a week and up to 13 hours per day. Very little down time. Passengers can be rude and demanding -- or in reality, just a few of them can be very difficult, most are wonderful. But it only takes a few to make an already difficult work life that much more difficult.

Some management and leadership is very "old school" and can be disrespectful of crew.

    Advice to Management

Shipboard development of management and leadership, along with staff development would greatly enhance the shipboard experience

Friendly environment, upper management is great! People are very nice and cooperative. No micromanagement at all. This company prefers its people more than anything.

    Cons

Not very upto date with technology
