      Great place for funding

      Pros

Princeton is a great place to receive summer funding and has one of the best stipends for PhD students in the U.S. The stipend is enough for rent, food, and some savings, but one has to be very disciplines. There is certainly no extra cash.

      Cons

The space can be very isolating since it is a small town, but you can always move to Philly or NYC!

      Pros

Great academic environment, lots of resources.

      Cons

Experience varies by labs and department, it's a small town, can feel hierarchical.

      Pros

The campus is beautiful and the facilities are generally really good. They have great core facilities which let you do experiments with equipment you wouldn't have in your lab. There is a machine shop you can learn to use. The faculty members are in large part top notch.

      Cons

Princeton is a small town with not a lot going on, so if you like city life it might not be fore you. The NJ transit is there, but going to the city is a bit of a slog, and you have to end up leaving rather early in the night to catch the last train back. One minor gripe is that the food options near lab are very limited.

      Couldn't have asked for better

      Pros

They provide employees with pretty good benefits, decent pay for research employees. It is great to have access to university resources as a staff member. Navigable bureaucracy. Working environment varies drastically from department to department and office to office, but overall seemed pleasant.

      Cons

It's a small town, and a relatively small University. Work-life balance depending on your position -- it was excellent for me, but isn't for everyone.

Great opportunities in a very lonely place

      Pros

World-class research, money for projects, competitive salary, and all set in a very beautiful location. Interdisciplinary work is promoted and the name recognition gets your foot in the door many places.

      Cons

It can be very difficult to find a community in graduate school. Departments can be very isolating and the graduate school has issues with integration between undergrads and graduate students. School is located in a small town and travel is required to get out of the bubble.

Can't wait to graduate and leave Princeton!

      Pros

The university does a relatively good job of activities on campus and trips to the city etc. Unfortunately these don't really make up for living in such a small town. The academics are amazing however, generally very good teachers, seminars and research.

      Cons

I would say the majority of graduate students at Princeton would not recommend it. I was warned by several past students and successful Professors, but I thought I knew better. Only go to school here if you're satisfied to live in a small town with 5 bars.
