Going in at management level should be ok as treated better than staff below, read contract prior to accepting & request increased salary as budget will allow.

    Pros

The shifts are very flexible when you are part time you can pick which shifts you are available for on a weekly basis which is ideal for students.

    Cons

Late hour shifts. Some shifts don't finish until 4-5am which can be difficult if there is no public transport available going to your house at that time.

    Advice to Management

Performance appraisals, more training and communication with staff

I worked at Principal Hotel Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked in a part of HR, and was not expected to do more than my contracted hours, when I did, it was appreciated. The office was friendly and any help required was offered freely.
Staff turnover is hellish, which is a well known issue in hospitality for non management staff in a venue of this size, but the on site Management dealt with it as well as they could, and were really open to pro active solutions and suggestions.

    Cons

Head office management had no idea at all, and the training that was expected to be run out had no relation to, and was totally inappropriate with the actual day to day operational challenges of the business, and was therefore ineffective and regarded as a bit of a joke by the management and staff on site.

    Advice to Management

Head office management should actually be obliged to work for several weeks in a venue, and should do so on a regular basis. That should take care of the disparity between their perception and reality. For example, there were no centralised risk assessments or any other of the aids that would have helped overstretched junior management already struggling with excessive hours to fulfill simple administrative tasks. On site senior management were, when I was there of , of a really good professional standard in my opinion.
