I worked at Prisma Health Upstate full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Greenville is a great town

    Cons

GHS is a very hierarchical organization that basically wants physicians to generate fees with little interest in individual practioner ideas or preferences. Basically every physician works for the Dept. of Medicine or Surgery. The culture is factory like without much in the way of collegial relationships. Lousy benefits, particularly poor retirement benefits.

    Advice to Management

Physicians need greater autonomy within their specialties with flatter management structure. Benefits need improvement. GHS needs a cultural remake.

I worked at Prisma Health Upstate full-time for less than a year

    Pros

None. This place sucks. Don’t trust theme

    Cons

They lie. They are so backwards in policies and healthcare. They love. Meet Ghs and do nothing. Pay scale is terrible. Healthcare is terrible. They scream they want to save money as a management team but they won’t give up control

    Advice to Management

Nothing to say. You will never change your ways

I have been working at Prisma Health Upstate full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everyone I've interacted with is great, so it seems that GHS attracts and hires good people.

    Cons

LOTS of cons - benefits are really awful, pay is low (for non-clinical positions), executive level management seems scattered with no clear plans for the future. The system says it believes in transparency, but that apparently is not the case for jobs. Pay ranges for positions are hush-hush (like it's not okay to want to know what you can expect to earn...? That's why people have jobs!), job descriptions are... unclear and often inaccurate, buildings are old and inadequate, no room for growth. People are required to stay in their positions for at least a year before applying for another (SO not the industry standard!). Even with that requirement, there is a lot of turnover, which causes workflow disruptions and requires office management to have to train new employees over and over again, which in turn reduces the time they can spend helping the organization with its challenges.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to grow so fast. Slow down and make sure you can take care of the employees that you have and stop playing favorites with departments/offices. Everyone contributes to the organization and deserves to have a clean, safe working environment. Stop re-inventing the wheel for everything and instead look to models that have been proven to work. Provide opportunities for growth and development so that an... employee can stay in the same department for an extended period of time instead of changing departments because it's the only way they can get a raise. Get your finances in order before continuing to expand.

    Pros

Many co-workers that have worked for GHS for decades

    Cons

The health system has gotten so large, management has no idea what it takes to run the hospital day to day.

    Advice to Management

Do not forget about how important staff are. Management only seems to care about money.

I worked at Prisma Health Upstate full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Competitive pay, and great benefits

    Cons

Large hospital system. Cost of services and care received through GHS are often very inflated. Medical providers operating as affiliates of GHS have no control over the pricing or billing of their services. Lack of transparency in the billing of services or medical equipment supplied to patients. Employees are subjected to relentless monitoring of their time cards, computers, and activities at work.
