    I worked at ProAct (MN)

    Pros

Very rewarding work. Organization truly strives to provide the best atmosphere available for individuals served. Individuals across the organization embrace a "team work" atmosphere and are willing to pick up additional duties to get task done. Encourage creative thinking, freedom to manage responsibilities to own unique personality and abilities.

    Cons

Politics within the organization and foresight internally and externally of the organization. Many policies in place to protect organization but may be harmful to dedicated, hard working employees. Program structures, and understanding best practices to utilize available resources in efficient ways to achieve desired program outcomes. Reactive decision making to save face with leadership including board of directors... and county officials. Knee jerk decision making without fully understanding policies and/or regulations. Expectations to interpret new information without professional training. Lack of cross-referencing to other locations of organizations across state. Relatives working under same roof in too many leadership positions, creates a sense of favoritism. Management should not be discussing organizational/individual dilemmas with subordinates.

    Advice to Management

Develop clear, concise roles within organization and avoid the need to have individuals be "jacks of all trades." Streamline resources for individual development, develop plan of attack on ways each service within organization will be delivered. Embrace creativity of current employees and reward it when appropriate. Grow a broader understanding of competition in the marketplace and develop in areas where competition... has not touched. Become a larger presence in the lives of everyone handling the day-to-day operations of the organization and reinforce positivity for growth.

I worked at ProAct (MN) full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very supportive environment with good teamwork. Upper management are accessible and they listen to your suggestions and ideas. Be ready to follow through with them because they will involve you in the implementation of whatever your idea is. No micromanagement.

    Cons

It's social services, so its automatically low pay. No merit raises. The only raises are the COLAs allowed by the legislature. You get the same as everyone else regardless of how much extra work you do.
