I worked at ProBuild full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work is generally pretty easy. Plenty of tenured people there that are willing and capable to help with almpst all accounting tasks. Very flexible with hours depending on manager.

    Cons

No room to grow. Below average salary and raises and bonuses are nothing. If you are looking for a company where you can move up in the company, look elsewhere. Several (but not all) managers do are difficult to work with. Very aloof.
The benefits are not good either.
Nothing to do during the month. EOM is awful.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more. Without your accounting team, you would be lost.

I have been working at ProBuild full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The associates at ProBuild are fantastic. Years of experience and it feels like home. Leadership has been good and will continue to be good as the acquisition by Builders First Source takes place.

    Cons

Difficult industry since the downturn in 2006/7. If you can not work with a lot of change in process, people and expectations this is not the company for you.

    Advice to Management

Pay into your associates with gratitude for the work they have done and for the work they do. Although performance and stock prices are vitally important you will not get there without recognition for ALL associates.

    Pros

Liked the actual job because I am very physical and like to work with my hands... But I would not recommend it to anyone who is of another religion

    Cons

Horrible management and employees.. I got fired because I am Muslim and one of the employees had a problem with that and of course was friends with the manager

I worked at ProBuild full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

DTC location, decent pay, bonus, which now only exists for mid-management and higher ranks, vacation time (used to be). Smart co-workers.

    Cons

In only several years at Probuild IT, I have worked for 2 CEOs, 2 CIOs, a few CFOs, several VPs and directors, and a number of mid managers. Turnover is high. IT used to have smart software and other engineers, however, they are mostly gone now due to the following factors:
previous and current management is vastly incompetent in what IT needs to look like as well as its functions. They were never able to align IT with business. Replacing CIOs did not help as they would normally bring their entire entourage with them, which would take a year to settle and the next year to leave the company after not being able to make any difference or play politics with each other. As Probuild being acquired by BFS, the future looks even worse for IT - BFS has almost no IT force, and they are not interested in expanding it. BFS IT is a tiny group of engineers maintaining a very old 1990s mainframe application, which surprisingly made it into 21 century. Mentioning ways of modernizing new company's applications strikes fear in BFS executives - there is no budget for anything other than maintaining their ancient mainframe application.

    Advice to Management

It is already too late to attempt to retain any knowledgeable engineers in Probuild/BFS due to merger and how it was handled by BFS. However, if BFS wants to foster some sort of IT organization, they would need to establish an IT culture first. If not done, then they will be just another lumber company out there.

    Pros

Good coworkers, solid management, great customer base. Decent amount of job satisfaction at the end of the day.

    Cons

Pay is mediocre at best, hours can be long, work load and responsibilities usually exceed the level of fair remuneration.

    Advice to Management

Pay the people who are a benefit to the company what they're actually worth.

I have been working at ProBuild full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, with shift differential thrown in.

    Cons

Said there would be lots of overtime.. except there isn't when they have people not come in mid-week because they don't have enough wood cut.. but then everyone has to work Saturdays instead! was barely getting in 40 hours. Quotas are ridiculously high and they fire people every week for not meeting them, some people only get a week to prove they can perform up to pa.. others a few weeks or months, but they have no reservations about letting people go without offering ot help them improve

    Advice to Management

how about work with those people you have to increase their production, or LOWER your standards to a safe level. the only way to meet the quotas was to work so fast that people were constantly hurting themselves and messing up the measurements. Quality OVER Quantity.
