I have been working at Progressive Waste

    Pros

Steady income with a great atmosphere

    Cons

The management team needs to learn the fundamentals from the bottom. Things look different from down here. Watch and learn.

    Advice to Management

Stop changing everything! One change after another. Listen to everyone and stop micro management from creating.

    Pros

Company gives you many tools to be successful.

    Cons

With those tools you are micromanaged. Most people only last 6-18 months before leaving.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Progressive Waste full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

People and benefits are great at the district levels

    Cons

Too many managers above District Managers that try to fit square pegs in round holes. One size fits all mentality instead of using what works for each specific area.

    Advice to Management

Let the districts run the areas because we know our markets.

I have been working at Progressive Waste full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company offers great benefits and the employees are talented and great people.

    Cons

Management is lacking- It's the old vs. the new. Small company gone Corporate and some in charge have no skills to lead. I and others ask often how does no one see this going on.

    Advice to Management

Have a conversation with your employees. Some of them have far more skills than those you have in charge.

I have been working at Progressive Waste full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company has recruited and hired really good talent. They have some of the best managers, the best sales team and a customer service that could take the company into the end zone for the win.

    Cons

However, they try to run too lean which causes some major failures. You can have the best managers, the best sales team and a good customer service BUT it you don't have the drivers, trucks and equipment it is all for naught. The customers get very tired of excuses when there should never be any...ever.

    Advice to Management

Hire drivers to spare. Have spare equipment for when trucks break down because they will break down since most of the companies fleet is old. We should NEVER run out of containers. Who is keeping container inventory. This is such a simple process and yet the company still runs out of containers. GM's jobs are to keep an eye on every ball in the air. There should never be excuses allowed for failures. Good... people leave because of these continued failures. It seems that no one is held accountable for these failures except for maybe drivers.
