I have been working at Progressive Waste full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent industry and a wide variety of positions within the company.

    Cons

Extremely top heavy, lots of upper management. Very focused on profitability and cost controls but not very willing to provide field level resources to better these areas. Also mid and upper level managers tend to manage up the ladder only really worrying about how they look to "corporate".

    Advice to Management

Don't spend so much time staring at the page - time should be spent at EVERY location as often as possible so that you may truly see what your employees are up against.

I have been working at Progressive Waste part-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are no pros to this job. Every aspect sucks. Ask a customer of this company and you will see they are wanting to go to the competition.

    Cons

The management cares little to nothing about their employees. The rate of employees leaving is higher than the ones that stay, they should have a revolving door out front. The training for this job sucked and the manager for the department is an inept fool. They make everything complicated when it doesn't have to be. Upper management only cares about the profit margin and not about taking care of the workforce. Stay... away as an employee or as a customer.u

    Advice to Management

Shut the company down and start over with new management.

I worked at Progressive Waste full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great pay, upper management has recently come down with a solid vision, some indication of hope that the redneck locals may have to evolve.

    Cons

Turnover in mid management excessive, 5 sales managers in 6 years, mixed messages, nepotism, weird directives, rude erratic behaviour of mid managers unchecked, local human resources practices include bullying and intimidation.

    Advice to Management

Have a closer look at the turnover in your districts, find out what is going on. The local culture and values are not in line with corporate. ultimately, upper management is not taking action for the unchecked behaviour of mid/lower management.
