I worked at Prospect Park Alliance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice community, times could be a fun relaxing environment.
Not sticklers about arriving by 9 am
    Good work-life-balance

    Cons

Extremely low pay and lack of understanding from upper management about how to effectively run a company
Hard to ever move up, VPs are usually new hires and they do not tend to hire upper mgmt from within.
Upper management would also appear to listen to concerns, but never implemented any change, which eventually left employees feeling hopeless.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they have good ideas too.

    Pros

A great park. Better to visit park than work there.

    Cons

Low-pay. No movement. Senior staff does not treat staff well. They think (and have said) that they choose better paths in life than assisting staff so that is why they are in better positions. Even if you like your coworkers they will not stay long.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees-- professionally, financially, and emotionally.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Prospect Park Alliance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Beautiful park in a wonderful neighborhood.

    Cons

Pay is dramatically low (to comparable organizations) and no room for growth within. Creativity is stifled, staff is given no respect as to their knowledge in their field and lack of diversity in professional positions.

    Advice to Management

Turn over rate is extremely high, so maybe you should listen to the employees and increase pay. A 2% increase is not sufficient every five years when the average rate of inflation is 3.22%.

I worked at Prospect Park Alliance as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Staff, talented and wanting to make things happen. The staff pulled out all the stops during two major storms,

    Cons

Tries to cater to Brownstone Brooklyn. Multiple moving parts of the organization, some are ignored at the expense of the other. The park has a variety of users.

    Advice to Management

A sense of clear strategy for all the moving parts. Allow individual parts to fundraise separately for specific projects.
