I worked at Providence Health & Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team of LPN, PT, OT, SLP and MSW. Great benefits. Most managers are supporting and reasonable especially in balancing the business side of healthcare with patient care and employee needs. The company actually honors its mission of serving the poor and vulnerable and is putting more emphasis on employee orientation. Hours can be long while staffing is inadequate but they are sparing no expense to fill open positions with great new clinicians.

    Cons

Some of the more senior staff are bitter and very negative. Our agency is rebuilding which creates lots of change but seems to be moving in the right direction. Pay is lower than competitors but dictated by union contract

    Advice to Management

Advocate for higher pay with union contract. Keep rebuilding and provide stability. Things are getting better!

I worked at Providence Health & Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great team of nurses/MSWs/Aids/Triage Staff/Schedulers work well together, daytime working hours although often with OT but they are day hours, occasional weekends or evening coverage

    Cons

No competitive pay with their own hospital pay, below market for other hospitals/services in the area, poor management, they have hired in micromanagers, managers with alterior motives and are toxic and due to this, the culture of the working environment has changed drastically and is having a negative effect on the organization as a whole, employees don't feel valued, employee who has dedicated many years of service to the organization and management makes the employees feel like we are easily replaceable

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to complaints from employees, realize there is a wolf among the sheep and get rid of them. Have loyalty with the people who work for you, value them as employees and as individuals, don't take the words of those who have been here very shortly over others who have been here for years.

    Pros

Good benefits, attractive workplace, average wages.

    Cons

Had a supervisor who played favorites and shove her work off onto me, took the credit herself and never gave me any credit nor appreciation for what I did.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites and look at who is REALLY doing all the work.

I worked at Providence Health & Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really loved the people I worked and Olympia is a great city.

    Cons

    Where to start.
    Management is awful
High turn over = poor patient care
    No life work balance
They are so understaffed patient rooms are left filthy
This is not longer a place that follows the mission, left to greedy CEO's and Directors with no skills to lead a team. Very sad

    Advice to Management

Clean out and start over with your directors and managers

    Pros

There is always room for career growth at Providence. The company takes pride in making sure we provide excellent healthcare the founding Sisters of Providence would have wanted. Pay is competitive with other healthcare organizations. Providence is committed to being a high reliability organization.

    Cons

Workload can sometimes be overwhelming with unrealistic expectations. There is sometimes a disconnect from the corporate office and individual hospitals.

    Advice to Management

Focus on building hospital infrastructure rather than focusing on mergers and acquisitions. Providence is growing too rapidly with the merger with St. Joseph and individual hospitals need improvements.
