I have been working at Public Company Accounting Oversight Board full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities for experience in different programs or different areas of the organization, work with other professionals with similar backgrounds, good for former Big 4 employees who enjoy technical aspects of auditing and accounting, projects are diverse and not repetitive, excellent work/life balance and benefits including work from home.

    Cons

Organization is bureaucratic with too many divisions and lines of reporting, opportunities for career advancement exist but are obscured by a lack of transparency around the promotion and compensation process, travel can be a bit cumbersome during certain times of the year, compensation is competitive but probably less than you would make elsewhere (in exchange for more work/life balance).

    Advice to Management

Slim down administrative functions to more appropriate level, flatten organization, be more transparent and consistent about promotions and compensation

    "PCAOB reviews"

    Pros

The PCAOB has an interesting mission to protect investors. It has opportunities to do so through inspections, enforcement action, standard-setting, and research.

    Cons

The PCAOB is an entity whose work is scrutinized by many stakeholders: accounting firms, investors, public companies, and Congress. It also is overseen by the SEC. This scrutiny adds a different dimension to PCAOB work products.

    Advice to Management

Management should better recognize how difficult it is for all employees to work under such a level of scrutiny, and the related stress.

I worked at Public Company Accounting Oversight Board full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some of the best benefits in the industry, the user base is friendly, they love what they do and you can build some wonderful relationships with the people you support.

    Cons

You are segregated to your role without many opportunities to move into another capacity of IT. I had a hard time finding another job due to not having any experience outside what I was doing there everyday.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the big picture of an employee, find ways to boost morale within the team.

I worked at Public Company Accounting Oversight Board full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits. Resume booster for people looking to get into a big 4 accounting firm.

    Cons

Life is very different for some divisions than for others. Work/life balance is preached, but not practiced outside of Inspections and upper management.

But, all divisions have trouble with internal and cross-division politics. Much of this is likely caused by the sheer number of management personnel. Managers often only have one or two other managers under them, leading (eventually) down to a small number of staff members. Some managers are better than others (and there are both excellent and awful ones), but all feel the need to validate their existence. So, there are mountains of red tape to do anything, and any communication outside your team becomes a game of "telephone".

    Pros

Great company, and this experience looks very good on the resume. Awesome professionals, and you get to learn a lot from them

    Cons

There are not many downsides, compensation is good, flexible hours, and friendly environment at work. Nothing to complain about.
