I have been working at Public Service Division Singapore full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Provides good Work life balance for female staff
Provides exposure to variety of roles
    Friendly colleagues and bosses
    Convenient location IN Town

    Cons

Competitive environment but frequent rotation of staff
poses brain drain and loss of institutional memory
Not knowledgeable about other sister agencies

    Advice to Management

Employ more Mid career professionals to balance public service scholars

Less frequent rotation of roles minimum 4-5 years instead of the current 2-3 years

I have been working at Public Service Division Singapore full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Meaningful work
Management is open to new ideas and innovation - not afraid of changes
    A lot of learning opportunities
Abundant opportunities to work with different agencies to tackle different problems

    Cons

Values people who talk with a lot of confidence (even if they convey false facts and do not work).
A lot of office politics - a fair number of employees undeservingly try to claim credit by being outspoken while the good employees are buried in the background, slogging their guts out.

    Advice to Management

It's time to take a closer look at your employees. Do not be duped by false appearances.

    Pros

The Public Service Division is forward looking and the work done there really do have impact on the wider community. It was great to have had the chance to see how policies are made and how they are relayed to the community. Great experience working with a fun and motivated team!

    Cons

It was an enjoyable internship with several opportunities to learn. I loved the fact that we got to interact with other interns from other departments, divisions and even agencies. Overall, a great learning experience. Nonetheless, as per most other government agencies, there are red tapes and long bureaucratic processes to tackle.

    Advice to Management

The internship programme is well structured with opportunities to work with interns from other departments and organisations. Great to be able to "visit" other organisations to learn more about the work they do. This internship gave a holistic perspective on what's it like to work in the Public Service.

    Pros

    Loads of training. Pro development.

    Cons

Only for dreamers. Vision of PSD is noble ie to make the singapore civil service a better workplace through its forward looking HR practices but a lot of those policies are only pretty on paper. Not a job for people who are looking for real work.

    Advice to Management

If I could help I wouldn't be where I am.

    Pros

Good training ground. If you've been through Hell (i.e. psd), your next company would be Heaven. Can become an investigator in future because you would have good eye power. you would be able to spot mistakes no matter how minor it is. Example: spacing between sentences.

    Cons

Office politics the worst in both public and private sectors. Tonnes of scholars sitting in their Ivory towers with zero common sense. Quite a surprise that they are still breathing and walking around. Coming up with policy after policy or reviewing policies constantly but with zero results in reality. Not a place to stay long, will be jaded very fast.

    Advice to Management

Nil. That's the system. Nothing can be changed.

    Pros

    Ample training opportunities
Job rotation internally and to other ministries
Good intentions to improve civil service HR policies and processes and set the correct tone for pte sector

    Cons

Great place for dreamers; A lot of fluff work
Excellent if you like to showcase yourself at meetings all the time
Tries to do too many things - lack of focus and unspoken expectations for staff to be able to do everything
Middle mgt not devloped in people management skills
Transient place to work. Not for long haul
