I have been working at Public Utilities Board full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable and reliable establishment to be with that accompanied with attractive remuneration and work life balance.

    Cons

Career progression varies according to which department you are in. First 2 years of the employment are contract based.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to immediate supervisor of the job holder rather than speculate on his individual performance from hearsay’s or from one level higher than job holder supervisor (Manager). They may not know how well job holder have performs, his immediate superior knows better.

    Pros

Stable, career development especially for engineers. Large organization with various functions hence opportunities. Good government policies for families, e.g. child care, parent care

    Cons

Progression can be slower due to large number of employees and talent pool. plenty of processes that can be cumbersome.

    Cons

Progression is not clear as well as guidance is not to be expected.

    Advice to Management

There is a huge disparity between those who work very hard and those who just work enough.

    Pros

the benefits are on par with most companies out there. even better if you are a married personnel as you will be given extra leave to take care of your children.

    Cons

the age of the workforce there are generally very old. so the corporate culture lacks vibrancy and youthfulness. there were many semi-retired staff who contribute much lesser than the younger employees as age have catches up on them and they felt that they are nearing retirement as could slacken off.

    Pros

Despite the occasional overtime, organisation promotes good work life balance! People are generally friendly and helpful. Pay is also competitive with market

    Cons

Like any government sector job, there is a certain level of bureaucracy. Stable but slow progression. Nonetheless, still a great place to work at.

I have been working at Public Utilities Board full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stability, decent salary with good benefits and work-life balance. Colleagues are generally nice.

    Cons

Progression is extremely poor. Appraisal seems to be more focus on seniority and "taking turns" rather than merit. Only scholars will have a meaningful career. Diploma holders undertaking degree seeking to be emplaced on graduate scheme is competitive and even if emplaced, plays 2nd fiddle to graduate entry engineers.

    Advice to Management

More opportunities to non-graduates and mid career upgraders seeking emplacement.

Narrow work scope and could be quite boring if stay in a position for too long
Only so called "Scholars" will be given more opportunities
