I have been working at Publishers Clearing House full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Relaxed, laid back, good for people who want to retire here.

    Cons

Seems to be a good company for marketing and digital media but terrible for technology. Unethical practise by hr and management to fire people on the spot. They hire talented folks but treat them like dirt. There are more process blocks than improvements, and it is all about pleasing your manager. Management tosses people around in projects without giving them notice or option. There is no team spirit, and contractors are treated rudely by staff at cafeteria sometimes. Anyone will tell you how they make consultants get up from the shuttle bus seats, so that full-time people get priority seating, at Port Washington, Long Island. People have complained about this and yet this goes on. It is very disgraceful.

    Advice to Management

If you want quality people to work with you, treat them with respect and be supportive, so they can aim to grow and work with you. Management should look beyond their favourites who give them biased opinions about others.

    Pros

The people were very friendly it was a good atmosphere to work in and I learned a lot about the company while interning

    Cons

The Hours were bunched up together and split up depending on the production of each day and after working for a while it tended to become boring and tedious

    Advice to Management

Make the intern experience a little more professional and more organized

    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    - Excellent benefits
    - Relaxed environment
    - Stable
    - Casual dress code

    Cons

    - No innovation - If you're looking to work on bleeding edge tech in an innovative environment, look elsewhere. Business is concerned with rehashing the same stuff over and over in order to generate revenue as quickly as possible. Little to no time is invested in new tech or cleanup/maintenance efforts. You won't feel like you're learning anything new.

    - Communication - Even the simplest requirements involve long, dragging email chains. Having a Skype conversation with someone 3 feet from you is common.

    - Salary - HR has no clue what market rate for tech is in the greater NYC area. Pay does not correlate with your technical skills nor the quality of your work. Lateral movements and promotions take a long time and HR will use any excuse to keep raises low. Prepare for a guilt trip if you ask for more.

    - Location - Port Washington location is inconvenient at best. You'll either end up paying a fortune for living there or commuting through a very limited and congested set of pothole-ridden roads with a radar gun pointed at you every minute.

    Advice to Management

    - Pay developers what they're worth. You're not going to attract any talent with your current scheme. Jettisoning HR is a good start.

    - Start investing in new tech and new ideas to attract a younger audience. Once your demographic dies off, so will you.

I worked at Publishers Clearing House (Less than a year)

    Pros

None. There is not one good thing about working at PCH. Taking the job was one of the worst decisions I've made.

    Cons

Old technology. No innovation, if you're looking for a stale environment and not looking to learn anything new this would be the place for you. Management can't get out of their own way to get work done.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of middle management, just because someone has been with the company for years does not give them the skills to be a manager.
