I worked at Publix full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and ability to shuffle to different departments.

    Cons

Inexperienced management and staff, crude working environment.

    Advice to Management

Staff needs to be more professional its a place of business not a night club, Lots of cursing and sexually explicit behavior on the floor and in the office. Also lots of favoritism, If you're not a part of the clique with management there are not too many advancement opportunities. Was really an unpleasant place for a self respecting person to work.

I worked at Publix part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The labor is easy enough to account for the inevitably high turnover rate.

    Cons

The Board of Executives hates workers' rights, management is usually condescending, and the experience is depression-inducing.

    I worked at Publix part-time

    Pros

Pay was slightly above minimum wage.

    Cons

Absolutely no respect for work/life balance. Publix scheduled me 35+ hours a week even though my managers were aware I worked a second part-time job, and was also looking for a more permanent, professional career. When I voiced my complaints to my manager, she was completely dismissive and did nothing to help, and acted as if she was personally offended that I was looking for a job elsewhere (I'm a college graduate, bagging groceries isn't part of my long-term plan).

On my first day at the store, I was put in a room and watched 6+ hours of training videos on the computer with no supervision. Lazy, irresponsible and ultimately ineffective way of training employees.

There are employee benefits if you stay for several years, but absolutely nothing for entry-level employees.

    Advice to Management

Not everyone works at Publix because they want to make it a career. Be more flexible with your part-time employees and respectful of their schedules.

I have been working at Publix part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Weekly pay
    Holiday pay
    401 K plan
Benefits (if you work 1000 hours a year)
    Stock options after 1 year
College tuition reimbursement (for majors that you could apply in a position with Publix)
If you leave Publix on good terms, you can go back to the position you had
    Some customers are really sweet
    Most associates feel like family

    Cons

TOO LONG OF A WAIT FOR HEALTH INSURANCE! (1 year)
    TOOK AWAY RETAIL INVENTORY BONUSES.
Low pay (and they don't want me to get another job even though I'm part time)
My position is a dead end job (the only way to get full time or a management position is to become a decorator or a baker)
Can take YEARS to get full time
You have to go to a different store if a full time or management position isn't available in your store
    Feeling of being unappreciated
"It's about who you know, not what you know" to move up
If you are only here as a stepping stone while in school or in hopes of getting work elsewhere, be prepared for the guilt that managers will attempt to push on you. "If you put in the time, you can move up". etc..

    Advice to Management

I can't live on my wages. Stop making the lives of your "associates" difficult for NEEDING a second job. 1.00 over minimum wage isn't "competitive pay."
    Reinstate the retail bonuses.
Make it easier to get full time.
So many wonderful associates slip through the cracks because it is too hard for them to get what they need. The Publix culture is faltering.
"Nothing ever changes", as I'm told by my fellow associates that have been here for years.
    Start listening to your associates.

I worked at Publix full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Benefits and the compensation.

    Cons

Management and the culture of the people. In I/T, there is no work/life balance as employees are expected to work the weekends. Managers and co-workers have worked together for a long time and some are even married and/or dating each other, so lots of conflicts of interests and favoritism there. Some polices are one-sided and only applied to certain people.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and authentically care for them and their needs.

I have been working at Publix full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good advancement opportunities, fellow associates are good to work with.

    Cons

Bonuses got taken away, and the .65 cent raise is a joke. Less and less hours allotment to get job done every couple months. Expect 2 people to get 5 people's job done which is unacceptable for a department that does 30k a day. Upper management who has never worked in a department think they know what's best for the department. Big disconnect between managers and employees. A multi billion dollar company that puts band aid's on broken equipment.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Running on a skeleton crew will drain department morale, and will lose you business. Running on your reputation will only last so long if you can't live up to it. It looks really bad when your stock is dropping, yet upper management is getting 50% pay increases. Todd Jones needs to go back to the family roots.

    Cons

Serious lack of collaboration. Managers are set in their ways and if you try to show them a new way of doing things they try to get rid of you.
