I have been working at Publix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay scales, health benefits, and retirement plans. Employee stock options. Some managers in certain locations strive for a family atmosphere in their store.

    Cons

Big corporate nitpicking and policies. Lack of diversity when it comes to men's appearances (I.e. Facial hair, hair styles, tattoos, earrings). Not willing to work with you on a set schedule, even if you have a second job. Schedules 'clopens' more often than they should.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat your employees like a number.

I have been working at Publix part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits.
Coworkers are usually very friendly and are solid team players.
    Very stable job.
The work itself is not difficult whatsoever.
If you are in a family oriented store, this experience will be very very good.
If you are a hard worker and driven you can excel in this environment.
Good pay for a retail job and chances for networking because of customers.
Ability to move to different locations and stayed employed.
Extremely flexible scheduling for students and tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Rogue managers or employees can wreak havoc on morale and employment in departments.
Lack of communication and understanding raises serious issues.
At times lack of team building or associate goals and standards make for a not so level playing field.
Seedy politics and double standards can rear their ugly head if you are too vocal or step out of line excessively.

    Advice to Management

Start to understand the importance of morale and the individual on a store to store level. It is not so uncommon for the "average Joe" to get crushed under pressures that should be handled by management only positions. It's also important to recognize how your core values that Mr. Jenkins started can quickly erode if not attended to. Recently there has been a major shift towards corporate mentality on the store level and it's effecting your employees more than you would think. I understand our role is minuscule in size, but if the family-friendly ideology is lost than your employees become more disgruntled. This ultimately leads to poor service and an inability to properly execute the customer first mission. Overall, the job stability and pay are almost unbeatable in the industry. The company is not going anywhere anytime soon and although the stock is not as immediate as some will like, this is one of the best things as a company you could deliver to your workers and I am extremely grateful for this. If the company continues as it does today the jobs as they exist are perfect for the field they are in.
