I have been working at Publix part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Paid weekly, easy work, flexible hours

    Cons

They tell you what you want to hear to appease you. Pay is mediocre which is why there are so many young people there. There are caps on pay so in order to make more money you have to move up. If you are honest with management they will cut your hours sand force you to move on. No benefits for part time! Took away bonus checks. Most management is tenured and say things like I earned these weekends off or nights. Hold people accountable.

    Advice to Management

Be the example that you want all of your associates to be! Stop playing favorites. This is not the same company that George started.

I worked at Publix full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

short commute. generally nice employees, air conditioned

    Cons

where to start?? RETAIL! Often poor backing from higher ups when conflict with a, to put it politely, challenging customer. Poor wages for anyone other than management. Crazy, irregular hours. Year after year, increases in workload, but no increase in help....and often cuts in payroll. Totally unrealistic expectations for the amount of staffing. Corporate MICROMANAGEMENT to the extreme. Time-consuming, unnecessary paperwork. Benefits near impossible to obtain due to constant hiring of new people at number of hrs designed to prevent acquiring these benes. Departments cannot retain quality help for any length of time due to poor wages. Basically a deadend retail job unless you plan on surrendering your entire life to the company and working 60+ hrs per week in a management job that you'll get paid for 40 hrs of. Ideal employee candidates are bright and energetic, but IGNORANT of other options available to them. The "stock options" as many refer to them here, is stock they give you instead of actual cash in your paycheck. Wouldn't you rather have the cash now to decide what you want to do with it, rather than a piece of paper that may have no value in the future? Sounds like social security.

    Advice to Management

Makes no difference what you suggest. They ignore it. I congratulate company for being a public relations machine. They've been playing the game for a long time and they do a topnotch job of it.

I worked at Publix full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits for part time/full time, family culture, open door policy,

    Cons

Favoritism, low pay, inconsistent schedule, opportunity for growth for certain people

    Advice to Management

Publix's culture is something that I truly miss. In terms of ethics and moral, not many companies care so much of their employees. I worked for the company for over 5 years in a few different jobs. Publix employees are underpaid for the amount of emotional labor they have to constantly put into their customer service. There's also growth and opportunity for those whose Godfather is a manager or for those whose best friend knows a manager. I am educated, hard working, and excel at customer service but I could not move up thru customer service. The work schedule for the front office staff is ridiculous for that pay. Great company still but pay employees better.

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Upward mobility
    Good relationship with managers
Chance to work in different departments
Ability to learn about food safety and the free items you get for working there.

    Cons

You have to be dedicated solely to this job
No time for anything extra. Meaning if you're going to school and it's not for anything that will help you at publix, they don't care.

    Advice to Management

Understand that people have issues. Things that are unavoidable. Don't fire people for being pregnant.
