I have been working at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Benefits, 401K and vacation time is easy to take as long as you are not union.

    Cons

Can be very hard to advance in your career. People tend to stay in their positions a long time. If you apply for a position and do not have the skill set required more than likely you will not be hired.

"Great company for an engineer not looking to change positions. For the rest of us, you’d be better off somewhere else."

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good, as is the PTO and work life balance. People are nice enough. Tuition reimbursement is great and there are lots of satellite locations.

    Cons

External hires get paid more than existing employees. Promotions don’t exist - you have to apply to get a higher position unless you’re “tapped” to become a Director. Passive aggressiveness is rampant. Recognition award seem to be a way for management to get around promoting people.

    Advice to Management

Pay your existing people what they’re worth. Promote people when they exceed expectations instead of giving them a recognition award!!!

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Time off is usually not an issue.

    Cons

Benefits are getting reduced little by little.

    Advice to Management

Advice would not matter. They value our input but don't act on it.

I worked at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Hired me for my first non-retail, non-restaurant job. Good bonus payout.

    Cons

Zero to little advancement. Unprofessional management in many cases. Picture a 1990's business that might have appeared in "Office Space".

    Advice to Management

    Hopefully things have changed.

I worked at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Wonderful company to work for. Great benefits, competitive pay, 401k match, flexible schedule (depending on which department you’re in) and if the company does good, you get an annual bonus, Company encourages further education and promoting within... They recognize and appreciate your work. Loved all my coworkers and supervisor in Gas Dispatch/Control as well as GSO, they truly are a great bunch of people. I genuinely...

      Cons

The only “con” would be the “panel” interview process... having more then one person in the room interview you can really make a person nervous.

      Advice to Management

      Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Most of the employees really care about taking care of the utility customers and there are some amazingly dedicated and talented people here that could probably make more money elsewhere. People seem to get very energized about the mission of providing gas and electricity to western Washington. PSE is fairly progressive about recognizing that the region is becoming a tough place to live and work (housing and traffic)....

      Cons

Very top heavy. Supervisors, and managers make most of the decisions that make or break the company...not the directors or VP's. The Director level (one step above manager) is like high school - very much a clique that protects each other. Their compensation package is different than the rest of the company and their motivation is to not rock the boat and lose their positions - hence most decisions are actually...

      Advice to Management

Recognize the people who are customer facing and dealing with the company's challenges every day. Your VP's and Directors are self-protecting and out of touch.

I worked at Puget Sound Energy

      Pros

Good pay and benefits. Some good people.

      Cons

Animosity between departments. Animosity between PSE and service provider. Co-workers don't trust each other. Incompetent, unethical supervisors. Favoritism.

      Advice to Management

Hire supervisors who actually know what their direct reports do. The "managers don't need to know the job, they just need to know how to manage people" philosophy doesn't work.
