I have been working at Puget Sound Energy

    Pros

Coworkers at an individual contributor level are generally very good. They typically care about making an effort at their job and most aim to have good relationships with their coworkers. There are certain job or projects that are interesting and where you can learn. Pretty decent PTO for the region (maybe not compared to tech companies though).

    Cons

The pay here is very poor and people are stretched thin because the company has a hard time hiring people with such bad pay and opportunities for promotion in an expensive area like this. The management does very little about this in any real way. They are good at being friendly on the surface but many of the actual things they say and certainly actions they take don’t indicate real efforts to improve things for their...

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good work/life balance Really good benefits Not very intense environment Autonomy

    Cons

Upper management is disconnected from employees, especially those in regional offices Lack of diversity, mostly in management Lack of strategy across the organization- Directors don't collaborate, resulting in lack of coordination between departments and challenges for employees Too analytical PSE keeps people around who aren't competent, dragging high achievers down

    Advice to Management

Ensure strategies are well thought out before launching them Connect more with employees at all levels

I worked at Puget Sound Energy

    Pros

Conveniently located. Some upper management is good.

    Cons

Extremely political, negative environment. Some upper management is there because other's don't want to deal with them. The I.T. leads play a lot of politicking games.

    Advice to Management

Processes should be put in place to discourage passive-aggressiveness.

I worked at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Honestly, I can't think of a single thing to recommend PSE. Your paychecks don't bounce, does that count? If you're an exempt employee, you can show up for a few minutes and then take the rest of the day off, which is nice.

    Cons

Low wages. Invisible Human Resources department. Just try and find a phone number or name of a person in HR. Go ahead, I'll wait. Constant re-shuffling of mid- and upper-management. In three years, my supervisor changed four times. Condescending executives. Frequent pep rallies full of hollow promises and political side-stepping. Aggressive, negative attitudes from staff...

    Advice to Management

The "Best Places to Work" surveys are a joke. With worker satisfaction scores that are consistently at the very bottom, you've done nothing to make changes for your employees. Don't ask for your employees' opinions if you don't plan to take them into account.

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They have a great place to work survey? From reading reviews I get the impression HR and upper management has been adding positive reviews of the company to make them selves look better on this sight. No one I have ever talked to thinks highly of them at all.

    Cons

Puget leadership keeps hiring executives from out side the industry that don't know what they are doing. They currently have NINE vise presidents! Instead of a long term growth strategy they take unnecessary risk just to save a few dollars. It shows because are not investing in their infrastructure or work force the way they should. Their work force is so grossly underpaid they can't attract and maintain the talent they...

    Advice to Management

I have personally watched my manager lye through his teeth to a VP. That is how you stay successful and keep your job around here. It's no wonder the company is running the way it is. Upper management thinks everything is great because they are shielded from the reality.

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Great retirement and health benefits.

    Cons

Upper management is focused on their own personal growth. They are inconsistent in their messaging depending how it's going to benefit themselves. They abuse their supervisors and expect them to carry out their dirty work but take all the praise for anything good for their front line employees. At the supervisor level, you are undervalued and underpaid. The union employees...

Great co-workers, genuinely care about the well-being of others.... Great perks. Safety driven. Genuinely care about the community.

    "Stable place to work"

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy

      Pros

Stability - the company is privately owned so it doesn't fluctuate much with the market. Work/life balance - most managers are great about letting employees work from home or alternative work sites if they need to. The benefits are fairly good and the employees are friendly. It has a family feel.

      Cons

There are many people here who are resistant to any kind of change. Innovation is slow. The older generation who has been in the industry/company for 20 years doesn't trust or respect the younger generation. The rate of pay and merit increases aren't competitive of the market. Those who are just coming into the company are getting fair pay but those who have been there longer are stuck in the lower pay bracket. Show More

      Advice to Management

The managers should be able to approve off cycle pay adjustments for their employees since they manage their own budgets. They shouldn't need VP approval.

I worked at Puget Sound Energy full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

The customer facing employees at PSE are some of the most wonderful people that you will ever meet. They are hard working and they have a vision for their work. there is an overall feeling of pride, as a result of providing a service to the public.

      Cons

Employees, more often than not, are not respected, listened to, or cared about at PSE. Furthermore, there is an overwhelming presence of fear in the PSE workplace, due to employees not feeling stable at their jobs. As an FTE at PSE, I've worked and developed work 'friendships' with employees in most departments. In this respect, I've been witness to multiple reports of dept managers and supervisors resorting to bullying...

      Advice to Management

I've provided feedback to management during my tenure as FTE at PSE. No changes were made. As a result, I will probably be a little firm in my recommendations. I will also be directing my comments to the Board.. as I think that only by Board intervention will PSE be a successful business in the future.. If things are allowed to stay broken, they just disintegrate. Here we go Get some managers that care about what...
