    Pros

Dialysis is a growth industry. Compensation is OK for this community. Supervisor is very supportive. Co-workers are an amazing dedicated group.

    Cons

Much better compensation is available by moving to employers a few miles away. Policies are unclear and seem to be inconsistently applied.

    Advice to Management

Improve employee compensation. make it easier for direct care staff to take leave. Share information more freely and really involve employees in decision making.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Puget Sound Kidney Centers full-time

    Pros

New grads welcome; residency training; base pay $29.95/hr; medical/retirement benefits plans; no union dues; three 13 hour shifts on MWF or TThS; closed Sundays; closed at 11:00 pm ( no graveyard shifts); $2 shift differential on Saturday; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years; 8 paid holidays including your birthday; Christmas bonus; no low census; plenty of adjacent parking; usually responsible for 8 patients and 2 dialysis technicians at a time; lunchroom goodies/potlucks. As the primary RN for about 20 patients with contact time averaging 12 hr/wk, there is opportunity for building trusting relationships for holistic care, education, and prevention by monitoring trends or new developments. While all patients have end stage kidney disease, knowledge base remains wide as most also have serious coexisting conditions, like congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, anemia, renal osteodystrophy.

    Cons

Getting approval for time off is possible, but not guaranteed. Having to wear a face shield, gloves, and plastic gown for certain procedures gets steamy. Must cope with the fact that a small percentage of patients will die.
