I worked at Purdys Chocolatier full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company has some of the hardest working people. From management down, the astroids is wonderful. Great friendships develope here. Hard work but the benefits match the hard work.

    Cons

Only paid if you meet objectives

    Advice to Management

Keeping doing what you're doing! It would be nice to continue to grow in size.

I have been working at Purdys Chocolatier part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of samples, great discount. They are more generous than other companies regarding breaks, and are relatively flexible when it comes to scheduling. Minimum wage is higher than with other retailers.

    Cons

Seems to be a huge difference in training between seasonal workers and permanent employees. Can be very hard to move up in company, or get full time hours. The push to get emails is almost ridiculous. Taking advantage of benefits can be difficult, a lot of forms are hard to find/difficult to understand, and HR is not the best at explaining what it is. Almost seems like they want to advertise their great benefits but not actually give it to their employees.

    Advice to Management

Make benefits extremely accessible to your employees. Reduce the push for emails, and for including the 100% Sustainable Cocoa push, a lot of customers like it, but a lot also think it's getting redundant in emails/advertising.

I have been working at Purdys Chocolatier full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a nice place to work.

    Cons

    shouldn't eat too much chocolates.

I have been working at Purdys Chocolatier part-time

    Pros

    - Try a new chocolate each shift, although it is required you do this
    - 30% discount
    - Coworkers are friendly
    - Flexible scheduling
    - Are generous with breaks
    - Pays more than minimum wage

    Cons

    - Training is not consistent, especially if you are hired from being seasonal, you don't learn the things your permanent coworkers would have (ex: it is expected you greet each customer a certain way, but as a seasonal we just started working. Then it is mentioned much later what is actually expected of you).
    - When DM is in town people are written up or fired for the most mundane reasons, to the point where you would think Purdys was restructuring, not Sears
    - No lockers, or locked back room so your belongings are out in the open
    - Hard to get shifts covered due to how little employees there are
-Do not want the icecream prices posted so if you work at a location where icecream is busy then you have to explain to every customer all the different prices, and deal with rude responses when they find out it's not cheap
    - When you are made a keyholder and get more responsibilities, you do not get a raise
    - Constantly pushed to ask every customer for their email
    - Lack of movement with shifts; spent a month straight working only weekends. Versus some other part-timers who were never scheduled closing on weekends.
    - Some locations are set up so that the counter where you serve customers is facing into mall but chocolate boxes and bars are behind you in the store, so you have to leave the counter to help people and sometimes can't see the bar area (which are the things most stolen)
    - Aren't allowed to use the microwave in the back room for food

    Advice to Management

Don't treat employees like they're disposable, it fosters an environment that resents upper management. Create an equal ground for training.

    Pros

Comprehensible staff; they compliment you when you achieve a goal; patient with your accent (if you are a foreigner); people from high position are nice and value your work; staff has a discount on chocolates.

    Cons

Career advancement is simple depending on where you are. For retail is basically master the language of chocolate and then, become a team leader (and this is decided by the store manager, not by you).

    Advice to Management

I do not have any advice otherwise about to work on the career advancement. There are good staff that works hard and want some opportunity to show their skills, but if it is not regarding your job function, forget it.

I have been working at Purdys Chocolatier part-time

    Pros

The team is fantastic and due to the nature of the product, it is a happy atmosphere most of the time. You also get free tastes of chocolate every other shift to ensure that you know how to describe the product, which is a bonus.

    Cons

Only negative is that, like many places, your experience will depend on the manager.
