I have been working at Pure Hockey part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Not a hard job once getting past training.
-Not a lot of responsibilities besides making the store look good and helping customers.
    -Great environment to work in.
-Decent pay for the amount of work.
-Great hours during hockey season unless you play the sport.

    Cons

-It's decent pay but not great, some days you deserve way more than what you're earning, and other days you don't deserve $3 an hour.
-Hours get severely cut during the summer time due to lack of customers.
-May need to get a second job in the summer.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to relax on some things that are not as big of a deal as he makes them.

I worked at Pure Hockey full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discount, hockey culture, customers, vendor perks, co-workers, sneak--peaks at new equipment, hockey knowledge, good networking opportunity, decent pto amount, ability to learn new skills

    Cons

Low pay, opportunities seem to disappear, bad communication, lack of connection with higher ups, bad company decisions, management does not realize effects on stores when decisions are made in the office as those people rarely visit stores

    Advice to Management

This company has talented people but seems to lose them due to poor communication and broken promises. Positions disappear without warning and then random people get the positions. Seems liked favorites at the top who reap the benefits, while others who work hard get pushed to the side.

I have been working at Pure Hockey part-time

    Pros

Help grow the game by getting kids and parents excited about hockey. Work with and help members of the hockey community on a daily basis. Mom and Pop feel because of the many repeat and lifelong customers.

    Cons

Cut labor hours at the expense of managers, sales personnel, and it's customers.

    Advice to Management

Instead of exclusively using a top-down management approach, listen to and work with your store managers who are on the front lines running the store and interacting with your customers. A lot of these managers have been with the company for many years. They have knowledge and insight that can improve operations.

  5. "Sales Associate"

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

You learn a lot about hockey equipment and how to deal with different types of people/customers. Helps you stay up to date with the latest technology, which is cool if you play hockey yourself. Employee discount. Culture was laid-back and everyone was able to joke around with one another when the store wasn't busy.

    Cons

They didn't use an online scheduling system; instead, you had to visit the store or ask a coworker to find out when you were scheduled to work for the following week. My manager occasionally scheduled me to work on days that I had previously told him I was unavailable. There were times when no one gave me a rundown of the new products that came in, so I didn't know what to tell customers. Frequent problems with computer, printer, and POS system.

    Advice to Management

Shift scheduling system to online so employees can access it anywhere. Better communication with employees. Purchase newer technology that won't be down as often.

    Cons

Some ups and downs with getting things right and the team side is a mess.

    Advice to Management

Find talent outside the box. Don't settle for the average.

I worked at Pure Hockey full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Being around hockey and Lacrosse all the time, part time schedule is ideal for high school or college students looking for part time job

    Cons

Upper management disconnected from what goes on in stores, policies not communicated well, no room for growth, horrible pay for young full time individuals, constantly forced work extra/long hours, 60 hour weeks typical for managers making little money, no recognition, terrible bonus system...was a key holder working ridiculous hours with a lot of accountability at 20 yrs old making $11 an hour, then an assistant manager making $14 per hour working 60 hour weeks with no benefits at all

    Advice to Management

Better policies to increase morale of dedicated employees, better training for new employees, available dates for vacations for managers, better hiring practices

I worked at Pure Hockey full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can be a fun work environment depending on who you are working for. I've heard both sides from people who work at other locations
They have a lot of room to make customers happy, which can make the job easier
it was fine for college. manager was good with schedule

    Cons

little to no room for growth. Part time to full time gets you like an extra dollar an hour.
managers could be frustrated and overworked sometimes. I can't really blame them.
company policies are really all over the place. i don't know if anything changes but it used to be almost impossible to know if you were handling things correctly.

    Advice to Management

communicate polices better. It might be worth the extra money to keep your better employees at the company.

    Cons

    Advice to Management
