I worked at QBE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay was very competitive--especially against other data-entry faced jobs. There was almost always overtime available.

    Cons

Overtime was often mandatory. It was a data-entry position where quantity and quality were both of such high importance, one or two typos was enough to ruin your numbers for the whole month, regardless of how fast a processor you were. Company expanded too quickly and absorbed too many competitors, so while I was there, there were many system incompatibilities between sites, and upper management realized they could no longer afford to keep us, so most of us with serious tenure were let go to layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Don't grow too fast and value the employees you have--especially people who have put in years of loyalty with the company. Competitive standards are fine, but when the standards become humanly impossible to meet, you need to step back and realize having your whole team stressing out to the point of sickness and feeling incompetent due to one or two simple typos a month is -not- healthy corporate culture.

    Pros

This company is the type of company you want to retire in. Excellent work life balance, great management, amazing 401k plan with company match, good PTO

    Cons

I really think this company was great but transferring to a different team was difficult. I left because I wanted to gain more knowledge in reporting.

    Advice to Management

    None

I worked at QBE full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Supportive colleagues and global exposure. You learn a lot especially when working o project that comes across different teams and job functions. If you put in the work, you can be rewarded. As for your co-workers, you would be hard pressed to find better ones somewhere else. At least in my role, I found my colleagues to be very supportive and helpful. They're willing to extend themselves at an email's notice or from just one phone call.

    Cons

The workload was a bit much. To be fair (and I can only speak for the position I occupied) it's not that the workload was not manageable, it just keeps coming and gradually increases over time. to put it simply one can easily give 100% effort and energy to the work you're doing but you can't give 100% effort, 100% all the time.

    Advice to Management

QBE is a great place to work with a lot of great ideas. Though a little check on how ideas get realised and implemented would be good. For example, there are plenty of ideas that would benefit and impact rank and file but these ideas get funneled to key people in middle management - the ones who would need to work to put those ideas in place - get too much on their plates. They're good people but they're just people. Not everyone has super powers to take on multiple projects and be back at 100% full charge the next day and the day after and the day after and so on.

I have been working at QBE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are nice and the pay is good.

    Cons

The systems are not integrated so it takes a long time to do your job. Most of your job is bogged down with administrative clerical work because of the processes and work flows being undefined or undeveloped. People are not promoted from within the company.

    Advice to Management

Look at another operating system for claims that integrates workflows that are progressive and less time-consuming. Promote from within and capitalize from the skillset of current employees. Define claims processes and talk to claims department to determine what works and what doesn't. Create more opportunities to work from home.
