I worked at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Picnic every year I never attended?

    Cons

Was not working in a QinetiQ building. Worked for one of their contracts. Did not meet my PM for 14 months. Was not contacted once in that time unless my time sheet was not not submitted every day or time sheet signed. When I did meet him he told me I needed to take a 7 percent pay cut. Second time a few months later told me I had to use all of my two weeks of accumulated vacation within the next 4 week period or lose it. No warning. Could not plan a vacation personally or professionally. Not a people company,

    Advice to Management

Reach out. Sending weekly emails about how many contracts you won or how many people donated to you charities is not enough.

    Pros

Great people to work with for the most part. Culture has a can do attitude when it comes to our customers.

    Cons

Commute, benefits, no leadership or direction. Poor people management and not dealing with problem employees. The saying of "too many chiefs not enough Indians" is real in this place.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together. So many good people have walked out the door because there is no direction or leadership. I will be another shortly that does the same because nothing changes.

I worked at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people I work with at my level of management were very knowledgeable about the work they were tasked to complete. Probably the best I ever worked with at KSC.

    Cons

The people that worked with above my level of management were very incompetent about the work they were tasked to complete. Probably cost NASA-KSC hundreds of millions of dollars and time delay for the new space program.

    Advice to Management

NASA-KSC Management get rid of this contract and the personnel run it and never have them knock on your door again.

"Great Technical Experience but No Direction or Future"

I worked at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Personally, I gained a great deal of technical experience working in the robotics group and was given a lot of responsibility to carry out small projects and to design freely. It is a great place to learn and develop any technical skill-sets that you want. Most of the engineers there great and all of the young engineers are motivated and want to make the company great again, but...

    Cons

there is a lot of tension between the more senior engineers/project managers that is absolutely toxic to the group. It is almost as if they are competing against themselves rather than working together to achieve a common goal. As a young engineer whom is trying to design a great product, it is very frustrating and distracting to have to constantly deal with the conflicts and arguments that occur on a daily basis. Also, the pay is weak and I never once received a bonus.

    Advice to Management

Where to start... Innovation needs to occur in order to keep the business alive - there is absolutely no effort to be innovative, continually recycling an old product and technology. Collaboration is a must - rather than form separate, competing teams to produce what is basically the same product/solution, pool the resources and work together to achieve a great end-product. Hire actual program managers rather than allow "principal" engineers to become program managers - most programs being run there are pure chaos with constant battles of resource allocation. Appreciate the engineers doing the bulk of the work - the company needs to properly compensate the engineers and give bonuses when deserved. I don't think that is to hard to understand.
