I have been working at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working on interesting projects. Good environment for people out of school. Flexible hours, free coffee.
You can work with some very bright people, before they realize that this is not the place for them.

    Cons

Hiring process - minimal screening for important engineering positions, management, reviews, review process, culture, job security. Layoffs are common...almost every year and they are not target towards the worst employees, but have a very random pattern that seems to surprisingly surprise everyone.

    Advice to Management

Fix all the cons. Listen more to your employees. Ask them what they think is wrong. After all a company is nothing without its employees, it is its employees. Customers should come second. If the employees are not happy, the customer wont be either.

I have been working at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly work environment, relatively large work spaces, plenty of free flavored coffee.

    Cons

Management... end of story. WAY WAY WAY too top heavy.

    Advice to Management

Don't bite the hands that feed you, to grow and prosper you need engineers coming in, not leaving.

    Pros

Great benefits and good work/life balance. Smart and friendly employees.

    Cons

Constant stream of new managers, each one wanting to leave his or her mark. They would shake things up for a couple of months before being replaced by another who would restructure things again.

I worked at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    The people and relationships formed

    Cons

This company is the most poorly managed that I've ever work for and I would not buy any product that they designed or produced. The last five years have been terrible as customers turn their nose up to the over priced and inferior products. Constant mistakes and mis-steps and financially they probably can't hold on much longer.

-proposal and contract review process (broken)
    -design and development (broken)
    -purchasing process (broken)
    -production (broken)
    -qa (broken)

    Advice to Management

Decide what policies, procedures and instructions belong in place and the REALLY IMPLEMENT them. Staff existing programs with adequate resources to delight the few customers left. Eliminate senior management that does not bring 21st century methods to the company.

I worked at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good working environment, relationship with colleague & some folks from other departments were family-oriented. We help each other produced good product & services for NASA. Flexible working hours & descent compensation.

    Cons

Tools & infrastructure not properly developed, validated & verified by users prior to tool launch, thus creating a lot inefficient, wasted effort in time & resources, along with employee frustration. Processes could've been better & streamlined more efficiently thereby allowing more efficiencies to be developed in many areas.

    Advice to Management

The negotiated contract should not be just upfront promises to customer to gain contract, it should be achievable using proper management tool. Investments need to be made for proper tool to keep both customers and employees happy. Good employees can be quite hard to find, good tool produce less chaos, thus help keep good employees from flocking out the door. Good & solid management decisions along with proper management education & tools are keys to successful contract, especially for when the contract has pre-determined boundaries, such as lots of unknowns & the ever-changing design requirements. Management decision needs to be driven by key upper management folks being very much involved & fully understand the technical side & what is at stake.

I worked at QinetiQ North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Supporting the military's critical missions

    Cons

Work environment was like working in a dungeon. Very dirty and unprofessional. VP was always yelling at employees. Never once did you hear good job but always got yelled at for the little things that went wrong. Managers were always chasing bread crumbs while the bread truck got away.

    Advice to Management

VP should stop yelling and try doing their job by motivating employees.

    Pros

Free coffee and tea all day long

    Cons

Too many to list. Hopefully they can re-create the company and make it successful, but current management is driving it into the ground.

    Advice to Management

Start treating people with a little respect and you'll see it goes a long way toward improved productivity. Working in a hostile environment is driving lots of good people away. Oh, when those people leave, do you REALLY think they all need to be replaced with VPs? The madness needs to end if you ever expect to be successful.

    Pros

They offer all day free coffee (lots of flavors(, tea and hot chocolate

    Cons

This was once a great company to wok for -- it used to have great employee moral, and working here was something you could be proud of. Sadly, it's all changed, and it feels like the company is going to told any minute, which has people doing all kinds of crazy and may unethical things just to ensure they can work for as many weeks as are left. Just a sad, sad, state of affairs.

    Advice to Management

People deserve to be treating with respect and honestly. We know there are some things you can't tell use right away, but why lie and tell us we're turning left when the secret plan is to turn right. It's not the 50s anymore!
