    Pros

Interesting work, people on the shop floor are lovely.

    Cons

    Awful management,
    No accountability.
    Low pay for loyal staff.
Should have "Barnum's Circus" written on the front door.

    Advice to Management

Line managers/team leaders need to interact with their charges. Listen to the men doing the job!

I have been working at QinetiQ full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Up until recently there has been some excellent projects to get involved in. Lots of very knowledgable colleagues to learn from. Good work life balance. Have had some good experiences in applying my skills.

    Cons

Going through a "transformation" which is shambolic. Lack of good leadership. Lack of career progression and reward especially with a constantly changing performance system. Taking on extra responsibilities without any indication of recognition for it.
Clueless commercial managers and an empty order book.

    Advice to Management

Be decisive and ruthless. Make the organisational changes matter and make them work for the long term.

I worked at QinetiQ full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A large and diverse business, senior staff are supportive of early advancement, there are plenty of training and development opportunities.

    Cons

The salary progression is poor, there is a huge layer of incompetent middle-management, and the size and nature of the business means that it is difficult to make any substantive changes.

    Advice to Management

Focus on recruiting real talent, empowering and rewarding your exiting talent. Clear out the dead wood. Don't get fat and lazy on the LTPA.

I have been working at QinetiQ full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The projects are diverse and very interesting, QinetiQ do things that no one else would dream of and they do these things well.

    Cons

There is a stigma in working for a privatised industry, with time this will diminish. There are still too many moaning people who will never adapt to private industry.

    Advice to Management

keep it up, what we do is world class, others will follow.Be careful not to employ too many ex military personnel, they too often belief that they are infallible and elite.

I worked at QinetiQ part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fantastic people, who feel very passionately about what they do. The work is exciting. The culture is really flexible and family friendly, I always felt very supported by my managers.

    Cons

Progression sometimes is more about if your face fits than talent.

    Advice to Management

Physical working environment isn't great and needs some investment, a small thing that would make a bit difference. Some management levels take a very short term view.

    Pros

Used to to loads; now can't think of any, except it's a job which where some of the staff have an average final salary scheme - not sure for how long.

    Cons

    Chaotic.
    No training.
Company is becoming increasing ruthless in getting rid of staff.
No annual pay rises - hasntr been any for 2 years; except if you're the very top.
Has laddering and the bottom 10% get the boot each year - now only performing staff left.
CEO wants to get rid of the trade Unions.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example - e.g. if you give staff a 3 % "bonus" instead of a pay rise; you need to do the same!
    Use carrot and stick.

    Pros

Test and Evaluation of aircraft, you get to see military aircrafts in action!
Flexi-Time is something that people rarely have. It is most certainly a reason to work for QinetiQ as long as you do your time and don't go overboard with the times.

    Cons

QinetiQ have a great workforce but have chosen to neglect the people that actually do the work. Management choose to take advantage of the passion staff show towards their work and therefore bully the unions into agreeing to stupid proposals. As result you will see the best people leave and the rubbish people stay. They rely on people to use their own initiative and create work for themselves.

    Advice to Management

If you don't stop neglecting the workers, you will see a significant increase in resignations and then you will truly f'ed. If you take care of the workers, they will put in 110% everyday and be happy that they did it. Ideas like introducing poor performance earphones and ' the little book of big ideas' do not enhance workforce morale. They cost money, money which could be used to utilize existing resources rather than get contractors to do the work.
