I have been working at Qlik full-time

    Pros

QlikTech values its employees and treats them well. It has a set of corporate values that are continually emphasized, and this creates cohesion in the corporate culture. The R&D department (i.e. software engineering) is growing, and seems to have a continual improvement process in place, i.e. it learns from its mistakes and improves its process.

    Cons

No significant cons experienced during my employment.

    Pros

Great product(s) with great potential Competetive salary and benefits Appealing tech stack

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Let teams in R&D have a stable roadmap for 1-2 years ahead and let teams execute on that roadmap

I have been working at Qlik full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Software company with good reputation from customers. Medium sized company, not about to go out of business. Working with new technology, solving interesting UI problems. Ability to work from home when needed. Smart people to learn from. They have a clear career path.

    Cons

You have to work in Kanata and the traffic in the area is slow during rush hour morning and evening. I would recommend trying to work around that.

    Advice to Management

Have an incentive plan for longer term employees. (eg: at 5 years you get an extra week vacation, or a stock purchase plan)

I have been working at Qlik full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's a big company and they love to show that

    Cons

It is a fragmented society all over the world. Many teams are in conflict with other teams and the product suffers this internal war. Product guidelines are poor, It seems that nobody cares. Managers who are far from lund tend to caring more about the new car, or the new home rather than their product. Being a developer for these satellite teams is totally a dead-end job.

    Advice to Management

Change managers! Current management is really bad, It's clear that they don't have any clue about what they are doing

I worked at Qlik full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Although a lot of changes happened, it is still very good company in terms of overall culture and work conditions. Good salary. Good work life balance. I really enjoyed working there.

    Cons

Some disconnect between teams, especially remote.

I have been working at Qlik full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Decent salaries - Okay work-life balance (getting worse) - Innovative product and technology

    Cons

    - Poor communication between teams / offices - Low morale / many recent exits - Development / ops processes lag far behind other modern companies this size - Culture of do-ers (developers) and think-ers (management)

    Advice to Management

Clearly something isn't right with Qlik's culture. Make an effort to consult and adjust it.

I worked at Qlik full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - The cloud team in Ottawa is getting a lot of investment - The people are absolutely fantastic a true team atmosphere - Really great people managers, genuine people who care about your personal development - Great work/life balance (overtime almost never happened) - Deadlines (usually) came from developer and then up to management - Decent perks, great health benefits - Pretty cool technology

    Cons

    - Company was acquired by private equity firm - Seem to be playing catch up to competitors - Upper management is focused on the short term rather than the long term - Cost cutting is noticeable in the company since the acquisition

    Advice to Management

Upper management: focus on the long term, continue to invest in your people

I have been working at Qlik full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A lot of smart people, some of them are even nice enough to greet you back in the hallway. Good compensation. Free breakfast. This is it.

    Cons

Qlik is a victim of its growth - in the years of its rapid expansion lots of people were promoted to leading roles without having relevant qualifications. A lot more were haphazaourdously hired mostly from Sony and from IBM (former Cognos) to form two dominating cliques in the R&D. As a result of this expansion R&D is huge bureaucratic machine. No career progression, no traveling, no conferences. Still the hubris aka "mojo" is sky-high.

    Advice to Management

Admit that you are not special. Promote based on virtue. Stop the blind nepotistic hiring.
