I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Qualcomm is overall a great place to work. Like all companies, there is good and bad. In this case the good far outweighs the bad.

    Cons

Fortunately I was hired in 2008 so I never got to experience any of the crazy stock options, bonuses or "good ol days" but I can not complain.

    Advice to Management

Continue hiring the best and brightest minds, stay focused on the competition and keep pushing. There are alot of businesses to win at and we just need you to lead the way.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good incentives. And the review cycle is once 6 months. Also San Diego being a little cheaper place, it's an awesome company to work for.

    Cons

Too many meetings at Qualcomm. Almost nothing happens in most of the meetings but you are supposed to attend them. Once you learn how to manage your time it gets easier. ALso the workload is too much especially when a new modem comes up.

    Dream of ECE student

    Cons

Too much of work for few people. Too much of secrets about techs between teammates.
You should believe people, who are working with you

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Now a days diversifying to many more areas other than CDMA technology

    Cons

Higher management is strict in policies, even if a candidate shows sufficient potential for his/her choice.

    Advice to Management

Project assignment for new college graduates should be done based on their technical know-how and skills, not arbitrarily. I joined after completing my bachelors. Prior to that, sent many mails to put me in a team of interest, didn't happened even when there was vacancy.

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Good compensation
    2. Historically amazing career growth (not sure if true currently)
    3. Decent non-cash benefits
    4. Overall great people
    5. Good reputation, adds to personal credibility

    Cons

    1. In the chips (VLSI) division, there's too much drudgery and not enough challenges. Too high an emphasis on timelines and deliverables, creating work pressure without the benefit of the job satisfaction counter-balance
    2. Company and overall industry not doing well
    3. Too heavily reliant on a few major players, career at risk
    4. Several management issues, at least in Bangalore (India), too many failed restructuring attempts, I've also heard multiple persistent grumbles about strong politics-driven culture for advancements in higher strata (not verified by me, but likely true)
    5. Poor work-life balance

    Advice to Management

Qualcomm used to be a great place to work, but of late it has garnered the disrepute of a company that's on the decline. The internal policies & culture only serve to reaffirm this belief. Though I suspect the success and/or decline of the company is largely driven by broader industry trends, the unrewarding nature of work in the chips division, at the Bangalore office if not others, has to be attributed to poor management practices. This is a view shared by several employees whom I interacted with at Qualcomm BDC.

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a good workplace from technical pov. You get to work on the cutting edge before the competitors. You have access to all tools. In my division the flow (setup) was very pervasive. Your colleagues are also very sound technically and helpful too.

    Cons

    Very bad work-life balance.
Because of the flow (setup) you had very little wiggle room to learn about the underlying processes and tinker with them

  10. "The best company to work for in VLSI domain"

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    > Industry leader
    > Good compensation
    > High paced work, execution centric
    > Exposure to cutting edge of technology
    > Capable and transparent management

    Cons

    > Poor worklife balance compared to others in the industry
    > Large company means your domain of learning might become very narrow

    Advice to Management

Although "partner" is one of the 3 pillars of qualcomm philosophy, it is very rare to see seamless partnership across teams/verticals. There is a lot of blame shifting and reluctance to cooperate if incentives are misalligned
