I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Top notch talented engineers! Pleasant work environment with an open attitude. If you want to discuss something with the VP, just drop by his office. Your opinion counts, and you can make real changes. In Boulder, there is on-site gym and cafeteria, and other amenities. The work is leading-edge wireless tech, and there is a wide variety of projects at the Boulder office.

    Cons

Since the incredible success of smart phones, there has been an increasing pressure to just "turn the crank" to churn out minor/no modifications to software and hardware for follow-on ASICs. The organization has grown and been compartmentalized such that it can be difficult to be "a star" in the crowd (but the opportunity still exists).

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Still the leader in wireless tech overall..

    Cons

    1) Politics is growing steadily worse the past few years (ever since the layoffs)
    2) Growth is extremely limited (once you get to staff engineer level), since you really can't switch to different projects without taking a substantial hit in the promotional timeline.
    3) They do not salary/benefits match with a different job offer.
    4) Way too rigid structure..
    5) Benefits now are middle of the road.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Work on leading edge, interesting engineering problems
    - smart, intelligent and overall good colleagues
    - Good Benefits and decent work-life balance

    Cons

    - Compared to big silicon valley employers pay and RSUs are on lower side

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to work on cutting edge technologies
Opportunity to work some incredibly smart people.
Good Mentors to help you grow professionally (depending on your team/division).
    Good Benefits.
Decent Salary. Better than average benefits.

    Cons

Work/Life balance could be an issue. Particularly during "bringups" and other shipment deadlines.
Upper management can be disconnected from reality sometimes.
Career growth slower in remote sites compared to San Diego.
(For Software Engineers), your skillset might stagnate if you are not careful about choosing your work.
Decisions can be political. (Affects mostly Sr. Staff and above).

    Advice to Management

    - Work on employee morale (beyond namesake efforts such as climate surveys).
    - Ensure fair review process, with some type of "ombudsman" to redress employee issues. Although systems are in place now, most employees do not trust them.

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits relative to most companies. Interesting work (latest and greatest communication technology like 4G LTE and 5G). Smart people.

    Cons

Serious financial difficulties began a few years ago. Lots of cost cutting. Bonuses and stock are shrinking. Promotions are almost impossible to obtain (many people waiting, small pool available). Culture of overtime.

    Advice to Management

Your shrinking bonuses/stock and lack of promotions are driving your best people to leave for other companies like Google. You can't afford to let this happen.

I have been working at Qualcomm (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart people (upto a certain job level), OK compensation/benefits, but they are not keeping up with industry lately.

    Cons

No risk taking in middle upper management level, Upper management keeps trying to please customer, middle management keeps trying to please upper management. Hardly any new innovation being here. QC has started buying other companies doing something new, rather than trying it for themselves.

    Advice to Management

They should try to retain talent.

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Started off as a great employer of embedded engineers in the USA -- getting rarer and rarer to find those jobs these days. Pay and benefits WERE excellent. Co-workers were generally pretty sharp.

    Cons

Bonuses / benefits completely destroyed. Went from pretty great to very, very bad. Layoff after layoff. Half of campus gone, people still leaving.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck.

    Pros

Ok place with lots of work pressure. Quality of people is reasonable. Not the best place to work if you are an engineer.

    Cons

Demotivating, lot of hard work with less benefits and salaries do to match market.

    Pros

    - Most of us get an office with a door
    - Great access to very current technology
    - Plenty of places to park
    - Friendly people in the halls
    - Looks great on a resume

    Cons

    - Uncompetitive salaries - pay is mediocre at best
    - Poor benefits, bad health coverage
    - Low morale
    - NO JOB SECURITY
    - Stagnant management; not a lot of advancement opportunity
    - No raises in 18+ months
    - Culture is "Work long hours, keep your head down, don't ask questions, be glad you didn't get laid off."

    Advice to Management

In the all-hands meetings you keep talking about wanting to stop the exodus and attract top talent, but offer sub-standard pay and a lamentable benefits package. No one is working long hours out of the goodness of their hearts and no one is working 50 hour weeks because we love the technology. The talent is fleeing this company because the company no longer does anything that attracts the talent.
