    Pros

Explosive potential in technology and financial gain.

    Cons

Politics with in management makes the workplace tougher than needed and less rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Not sure what I would tell senior management.

    Pros

Benefits and professional learning opportunities are above par, and unmatched within the San Diego area. Great health benefits, world class speakers are brought in for employees to hear.

    Cons

Middle management and senior management are not always aligned. Promotions are not fair, even if you execute successfully on projects you may not get recognized, if your supervisor does not like you.

    Advice to Management

Focus on career development for employees. I thought there was a lack of interest in my division, I did not see a coordinated effort put forth by management.

    Pros

    - Qualcomm offers a very good compensation package.
    - Almost everybody has an office, so it is not a cube world.
    - People are helpful to each other, there isn't much competition among employees.
    - I haven't seen any layoffs over the last few years.
    - There is free dinner at 6pm for employees who plan to work after hours.

    Cons

    - The only downside of working at Qualcomm is busy work schedule. People are encouraged to work after hours (there is free dinner at 6pm). So, most people work until 9pm.
    - There are many projects and deadlines. Sometimes, it gets very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Some managers are not very involved with what their engineers are doing, so their expectations are not always realistic.

    Pros

Good health benefits and stock purchase discount. Good gym, lot of celebrations, lots of lunch meetings (free food). There are plenty of technical courses that will enable you to keep up to date professionally. There are a lot of non work related mailing lists that you can join for areas of your interest. If you get the right assignment work can be interesting and cutting edge when it comes to the industry peers.

    Cons

Qualcomm organisation lacks structure. If you have worked at a process driven company it takes time to understand how things function. Qualcomm is also an old boys club. If you know someone higher up or have been there for years and are well connected you will not have a problem, otherwise you are going to remain where you are. if you stay at QCOM for several years then eventually some of the stock options will be worth money.

    Advice to Management

Putting some structure in the organisation wouldn't hurt. Recognizing and promoting employees not part of the old boys club would definitely make it a better place to work.

    Job well done

    Pros

Best place for semiconductor design and wireless innovation. Healthcare plan is good. Vacations are 3 weeks a year starting, and increase post 5 years. Good 401K plan, good facilities on site.

    Cons

Certain departments, like mine, are partial to specific employees and are underpaid and unfair. Promotions and awards are given to those who are friends with a manager outside of work, without any bearing or relation to professional performance. Salaries are low for the area. Some facilities, like the hospital, are not useful since there is a long wait time, which kills the original intent of the service.

    Advice to Management

Pay fairly, make payscales transparent. Plan ahead. Paul acts like a surfer dude, he is nowhere close to his father in terms of insight and charisma, he doesn't perform as a visionary leader.

    Pros

Good management, good work life balance.
Also perks are good. There is a good employee stock purchase program and good health benefits.
Reviews are done every six months, and managers are trained well.
There are good programs that encourage innovation.
The company also offers good online training courses that can be taken advantage of, time permitting.

    Cons

Sometimes too focussed on deadlines, and software quality suffers as a result.

    Advice to Management

    Reward software quality also equally.

    Pros

Benefits, Salary, Family/Life Balance, Profitable, Culture & Technology Advancements

    Cons

Long Term employee issues regarding Management, poor performance, "retired" on the job, lots of dead wood. Some organizations require technical degrees for non technical positions, can be hard for non-technical degreed professionals to move into new positions.

    Advice to Management

Overall, I have a lot of respect for the officers managing the direction of this company and believe what they communicate. A saying going around is that it is easier to get a (different) job at Qualcomm fromt the outside than to transfer within. A focus to hire within and encourage transfers and not say "no" if capable but no technical degree for non-technical jobs. Seems most support is for engineers only.

    Pros

Great benefits. Very easy work times.

    Cons

Your manager must like you. Place has become bureaucratic and political. Need to impress the right people otherwise you are doomed. Many people who are rich because of stocks are lazy and don't do anything. Its really depends on the lead and director. Information sharing within teams can come a problem. Promotions are sometimes not fair.

    Advice to Management

More information sharing. Make sure promotions are happened justly.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    - the wireless market is hot
    - technology driven
    - employees are nice to work with

    Cons

    - the place is chaotic with lack of clear direction and leadership
    - there are many good manager and as many or more bad managers
    - senior leadership does not really know what's going on at lower level
    - people that are contributing are ignored and the ones that don't do work get promoted/recognized
    - a lot of fire-fighting with no clear project schedule or strategy
    - watch out for back-stabbing managers that will sacrifice their employees for their own advancements and agendas

    Advice to Management

    - spend time to recognize key teams and individuals who are working hard and helping the company
    - get rid of incompetent middle managers and allow productive people to step up
