I worked at Qualcomm as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

There is an exciting, fast paced workload, with outstanding support ranging from handy parking areas to quick and responsive IT staff to deep technical resources. They treated contractors like real employees, including access to gym/workout facilities anywhere on campus.

    Cons

The huge campus in San Diego requires an annotated map to help you get to meetings, events, labs.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Cutting edge technology for cellular, smart co-workers, great health benefits

    Cons

Stifling because you're pigeonholed based on your expertise. Culture doesn't embrace risk taking. Profit margins are too low to truly live the idea that employees are its greatest asset.

    Advice to Management

Higher more smart creatives (people who are inclined to create and discover) and not simply focus on those who deliver.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was one of the greatest places to work.

    Cons

A lot of IT is finding its way out of the USA reducing in country opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Maximize the value to the stock holder!!!!!

I have been working at Qualcomm part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management cares deeply about its people. I was told routinely to not work so hard. Hours are completely flexible, but I was part-time and worked from home. They are trying to raise money and bring people to an office full-time, so I guess that will change. Very welcoming to new ideas.

    Cons

Goals shift fairly often. My job description never really changed. I was always tasked with more or less the same things, so my responsibilities were always the same, but what we were working toward changed fairly frequently. I can't blame them, though. They had very little money and were being pushed and pulled. Startups ...

    Advice to Management

Get that money and solidify goals so we are all working toward one thing.

    I worked at Qualcomm full-time

    Pros

Opportunity to travel around the world. Used to be able to fly business class. Working with smart and driven people

    Cons

The culture is absolutely terrible. Within my team, turnover was more than 50% last year. People dropped like flies. Why? Because management only cares about meeting its numbers. They do not care if they kill their staff in the process of doing so, by making them work insane hours and jump through hoops just to meet expectations. As long as they hit their goals and look good in front of their managers, they're happy. Management will lie to you about promotion potential from day 1 (interviews). They will keep dangling the potential to be promoted in front of you, just to get you to work harder for them. In the end, you (along with many others who were promised the same thing) will be sorely disappointed. I joined the company thinking it would be great, that it was the best place to work in San Diego, but trust me, it's not worth the pain, sweat, and tears to have the "Qualcomm" name on your resume.

    Advice to Management

Don't just talk about promotion potential and caring about your employees. Demonstrate it. Otherwise, no one will have any motivation to work hard, and the company will go down in flames (it already is doing so).

    Pros

Lots of opportunities, cutting edge solutions for communication technologies, lots of good benefits, and reasonably good compensation.

    Cons

Large software organization without some of the good software visionary leadership, very hardware focused leadership.

I worked at Qualcomm as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company. Located north of San Diego in La Jolla. Very upscale town with beach nearby! I was a summer intern there. I loved meeting the other interns and getting to know about the company. If I could do it all over again, I would have chosen a different team to more align my work with my personal career choices. I removed one start because I think this company needs to work hard to keep itself up meaning it doesn't innovate enough! (A lot of Qualcomm's revenue comes from patents and intellectual property. This is to say the company 'compels' manufactures to pay for Qualcomm's 'innovations' instead of truly innovating and then watching the customers come running to the company to buy its cool tech.

    Cons

It's not Silicon Valley but close enough!

    Pros

Great people to work with whom were knowledgeable, helpful and had integrity.

    Cons

Not the small company feel it once was.

    Advice to Management

My department was run like any great company should be however other departments had a lot of overhead of management.
