I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I enjoy working with great people everyday. I think QUALCOMM still has the best benefit programs and great work environment.

    Cons

Increasing pressure and challenges from outside. Compensation and culture are declining due to these challenges. The management team is still trying to do the right things but it seems like they can only do so much.

    Pros

Worked as a test technician. Great management team.

Could do better at providing opportunities to move up.

    Advice to Management

Provide opportunities to advance. Hire internally. There's plenty of great and qualified talent.

    "Great Company - Undervalued"

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Another US based company with same achievements would have leveraged the success much better than Qualcomm did. But it is also true it is one of the most gentlemanly company in US today. The management is candid and try to be honest. The compensation is above average. The quality of work is above average for most. At least until very recently there was a sense of purpose - bigger than thy - culture of excellence in hardware design. Although the floodgate of lay off has opened two years back - company is still one of the best in the world.

    Cons

    Two main problems:
    1. As the company is now middle aged - it is top heavy. At Staff and Sr. Staff Level opportunity of growth (in terms of quality and breadth of work) is getting limited by days. The attrition and frustration is increasing by days. Not long ago, about 5 years ago employees who went gaga about Qualcomm and were irritably proud and short sighted (most folks here only worked in Qualcomm and no other companies, possibly 80% of engineering workforce) about Qualcomm's achievement are now growling about almost everything.

    This is because of #2.

    2. Company is trying to break free of its dependency on phone/modem business. Until that happens and revenue stream start to show that this phase will last.

    Advice to Management

Company has been unsuccessful to make brand in spite of technical excellence and business success . Today it would have been invaluable, but it is still not too late. Also, evaluate if past sucess stories still invaluable for future - especially with QTL. Apple will remain a major player with or without Qualcomm. Let's not make the flight personal. Murthy is gone, Apple will stay here.

Make more space for mid level engineers. Create more leadership opportunities than executors.

I worked at Qualcomm as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Perks, competitive salary, great campus, networking events and opportunities, good work life balance. It’s a relaxed atmosphere but employees are driven. Stock is also doing very well.

    Cons

Often times, politics get in the way of getting things done. Management fails to understand workforce problems ahead of time. Other competitors (intel) pay more.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on the goal.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for those that pursue it
New CIO is making positive changes

    Cons

Too many over titled individual contributors in IT, which is an artifact from prior leadership. Too few are capable of delivering high-quality work or able to think out of the box which results in no work-life balance for those that care about the work and services they provide.
