I worked at Qualstar Credit Union full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The members (customers) at Qualstar were the sole reason I stayed at QCU for 3 years. They loved me, and often gave me gifts and excellent reviews to show their gratitude. However, Qualstar never acknowledged any of it.

    Cons

The managers I had were the rudest, unintelligent people I ever met. I got written up for going home sick when I was puking. Got in trouble for not bringing my phone into the bathroom while I was getting sick to text/call them and tell them, even tho I told them before I ran to the restroom that I was goi g to get sick. At my 3 year evaluation I did not receive any raise. I would be 1-3 minutes late every once in a while, and would get talked to about it. Which is ok when it's done to everyone, but no one else got spoken to when they were late. Never been discriminated like this at a job before. Went to HR twice and they did nothing about it.

    Advice to Management

Mark Nelson, who is an amazing CEO besides not seeing how terrible his branch management is, needs to fully renovate the management team in the branches (Redmond mainly).

I have been working at Qualstar Credit Union full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of perks like free lunches, competitions with a chance to win free movie tickets, etc., also they are pretty understanding about life stuff.

    Cons

Vacation time is generous but overly strict and very difficult to change. They make you book one 5-day block for the first half of the year as well as the second half of the year.... a year in advance. They cannot make accommodations 6-12mo in advance for a day around holidays, etc.

    Advice to Management

Train you new promotions and new positions more intensely, make them work as hard as the lower operational branch staff work and train. Leadership is lacking a tad.

    Pros

Really enjoyed the sense of family there, they did a lot of fun things for their employees.

    Cons

The traffic to work was brutal, other than that I had no complaints.

    Advice to Management

Keep showing your appreciation to your employees, it does make a difference.

I have been working at Qualstar Credit Union full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are amazing! The membership base is unique and casual. You can hold a normal conversation with all upper management including the CEO. Very comfortable place to work. Very flexible! Pension plan and 401k

    Cons

Pay. Very low comparatively. No accountability for staff. They fire no one and let the others pick up the slack without compensation. Commute is horrid. Building is really old and seems to be falling apart around you.

    Advice to Management

More recognition for non funding employees but over all the upper management is awesome.

    Pros

Qualstar's culture is very employee-friendly. It emphasizes improving the member's financial life rather than creating profit, which makes for a great environment. There is also an extremely strong employee benefits package that includes a pension and a 401(k) plan.

    Cons

Not in downtown Seattle, but main locations are in Redmond, Lynnwood, and other King County cities, so may be ideal for those looking to work closer to home with less commute time.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I worked at Qualstar Credit Union full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Full benefits, opportunities for bonuses, good team environment. Lending team was small which was nice for communication purposes, all members were warm and welcoming in their own way.

    Cons

Long days with required hour long lunch, sometimes goals can be difficult to meet. You must be OK with multi-tasking and taking over on other people's projects. When someone else starts a loan and is working with the members, knows everything about the situation it can be very overwhelming for all parties to take over since you aren't supposed to re-route calls.

    Advice to Management

While I was an employee I always felt I could go to management with an issue if I had one, very happy about that. Only thing I would say is show more understanding and moral support for those on the phones, it's extremely overwhelming unless you're a veteran there for years it seems.

    Pros

Qualstar Credit Union truly cares about its members and does everything possible to try to make the member’s financial situation better. This is what our culture is built upon.

Qualstar also cares about its employees from the top down. The CEO is genuine and treats everyone with the same importance. My manager is great. I feel that she respects me and my opinions and always has my back.

Our voices are heard at Qualstar, no matter what position one holds.

    Qualstar’s benefits are great too!

I’m very proud to say that I’m an employee of Qualstar Credit Union!

    Cons

I can't think of any at this time.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!
