I worked at Quantum Corporation (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great co-workers, some good technology.

    Cons

People at top making irrational decisions with zero regard for anyone involved.

    Advice to Management

Let middle management do their jobs and support their reports without fear of reprimand from above.

I worked at Quantum Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people were great, and I was given a lot of opportunity to advance. I've had some great mentors and managers during my time there. Great technical minds, and the ability to innovate in the marketplace.

    Cons

With the above pros, the biggest issue is lack of forethought and long term strategy. Quantum senior management seems to jump on any buzz, make it the "focus" for the quarter, and if it doesn't immediately blow up, try to change direction again. Sales quotas are changed constantly, marketing shifts constantly, and as such there is never any traction. In addition, there is a fairly large "old boys club", which keeps some management around even when they severely under perform.

    Advice to Management

Play to your strengths, innovate within your wheelhouse and focus on the verticals instead of trying to spread out to other product offerings.

I worked at Quantum Corporation (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I could of worked rest of my days at Quantum and retired. My District Service
Manager was the best I have ever worked for.

    Cons

Management is driving what's left of this company into the grave. Wake Up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have out sourced all your manufacturing and your Field Service Team was replaced with a 3rd party vendor.......

    Advice to Management

Wake Up ........... Wake Up and smell the coffee. Don't worry about your golden parachutes which I am sure exist ...

I worked at Quantum Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Interesting products
    Good benefits
    Flexible schedules
    Great coworkers

    Cons

Compensation is not close to industry standards
Constant layoffs in an attempt to be profitable leading
Lots of management layers, they layoff plenty of workers but never layoff managers (they actually tend to add layers when performing layoffs)
No direction, upper management continues to drive the company into the ground
    Stock price constantly dropping
Products, while interesting, are stagnant. There is little innovation these days
Raises and promotions are hard to come by
CEO keeps stating they are a growth company, but they only grow smaller and smaller

    Advice to Management

    Find a competent CEO
Shed some layers of management, do you really need 2 or 3 levels of vice president?
Stop pretending you are a growth company
Figure out how to sell your products

    Pros

Work and personal life balance was great

    Cons

CEO and team not sure where they want to go. Slashing sales team and trying to do it all with less is a potentially volatile mixture for failure.

    Advice to Management

Clean house of upper management and you might have a chance.listen to your field sales team. They are closes to your customers.

    Pros

Good people and know their role. Dedicated staff given struggling company and layoffs.

    Cons

Very political and hard to advance. Company changes direction and strategy constantly. Little work/life balance. Good old boys club in management.

    Advice to Management

Think outside box stop doing same programs and models over and over

I have been working at Quantum Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good coworkers; decent work-life balance; except for compensation, pretty good benefits

    Cons

Quantum pays about 20-25% below industry average; most mid- and lower-level managers are either dictators or micro-managers; facilities are a joke - labs are in warehouse facilities, all the furniture is old, used, mismatched junk.

Engineering business processes are run on the cheap: critical tools are of the free variety; bug tracking systems are used for project management; IT has to manage a hundred different applications (most cheap or free); more time is spent in status meetings than actually working.

Only one raise in 5+ years; stock option grants are so small they're insulting (and worthless); frequent layoffs due to upper management not knowing what they're doing - but management never feels the cuts, only the worker bees.

Employee moral is low. Opportunities for promotions and salary increases are non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs a refresh. Purge the young, clueless SVPs and bring in experienced, seasoned executives; replace the ego-driven CEO. Build and communicate some real vision.

I have been working at Quantum Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-More opportunity to directly connect with the executive team at Quantum then another large company
-Employees have a lot of experience and wealth of knowledge

    Cons

-Due to the companies performance, bonuses are hard to come by and typically aren't given out
-The turnover rate is very high
    -General morale is low
    -No culture

    Advice to Management

Find ways to better support your employees, and give guidance and direction to the company and product set in a declining industry

I worked at Quantum Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good, smart, level-headed people on most teams. Most products are strong contenders in the storage space, especially StorNext. Work life balance is great, except when it isn't. Benefits are decent.

    Cons

One of the most boring, slow-to-evolve technology companies I have ever seen. Pay and company culture and on the very low end. Managers and executives are so concerned about quarterly profits and shareholder value they have sacraficed employee moral, company culture and any shred of long-term viability or excellence. A mediocre organization with mediocre leadership.

    Advice to Management

Bring in a consulting firm for total culture and organization re-haul. Or sell to Netapp or Dell.
