I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Steady income, decent benefits and good vacation, provided there is someone to cover. That is often not the case.

    Cons

Insufficient coverage for requested time off, to the point of some employees losing vacation time. Gross lack of training / orientation for new employees. No communication from management. Current employees are hardly considered for advancement. Lack of uniformity in regards to required procedures, with no indication that standard operation procedures exist. Obvious favoritism regarding overtime. No preventative maintenance performed on vehicles other than oil changes but, corrective maintenance is authorized, provided you have the time to take the vehicle yourself. As you may see, it is very loosely run and morale is extremely low.

    Advice to Management

Essentially, perform the duties for which you are paid. Communicate with the employees and have information meetings / training once in a while. Provide sufficient coverage in order that we may take our earned paid time off.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People you work with on your teams are great. Knowledgable...always a big help.

    Cons

Management culture is awful. Totally a rule by fear organization. No respect. No trust. Lack of career developmental opportunities. Compensation is below standard compared to industry.

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to your associates about what is wrong and fix the problems (or at least attempt to) instead of fattening your bank accounts with your short-sighted stock options. Especially when the stock price is going up and your sales force isn't hitting their budget goals.

I worked at Quest Diagnostics part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you're in need of money this is a great PT GIG, because you can get up to 30 hours every week.

    Cons

too demanded for individuals who are only looking for a PT GIG. You will be required to work the mandatory OT hours which will be every week. Hard to get time off. When I worked there I had a FT job, so every week was a 70 hour week which was hard. No real flexibility in your work schedule. Some folks are only looking for 20 hours a week on a PT gig.

Now I believe they hire you in at 25 hours with a mandatory 4 hours a week, so be prepared for 29 hours with this part time position.

    Advice to Management

Allow FT folks to keep to a 20 hr week and signup for extra hours opposed to make them mandatory, it would probably help with the turn over.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Diverse workforce, training is quick

    Cons

Poor management, too much work for too little people, high turnover rate, takes too long to hire new employees

    Advice to Management

Lessen the amount of time for hiring, stop assuming people will work for your company for more than 3-5 years, include more incentives for people to stay

I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Salary, Health Benefits, time off allowance after 5 years ( if you make it that long).

    Cons

Lots of job reductions. Upper management lies constantly about what is happening in the company. For a healthcare company they don't treat their employees with health problems very well. 9 years of loyalty and a couple months of a major illness and your gone.

    Advice to Management

Stop paying upper management hundreds of thousands of dollars ( and bonuses that amount to 5-10 employees salaries), rather than laying people off. Does someone really need a $200,000-500,000 bonus for the employees doing the work? The employees should get the bonus and keep their jobs. The employees here are great to work with. The upper management and company philosophy not so much.
