the manager will not listen on what you need to do your job and plays favorites. And chooses leads that are underqualified..and sweeps all the lead mistakes under the rug

    Pros

Large company with opportunity for cross functional experiences. Good exposure to several aspects of healthcare. If you can fit into the existing culture you will get good peer support to grow professionally.

    Cons

Stale culture that is slow to market and resistant to change. Most leadership teams not open to questions or thinking outside of the box. Core business focus of routine clinical testing prevents adaptation to changing market of personalized medicine.

    Advice to Management

New leaders from outside the company can bring new blood needed to grow

I worked at Quest Diagnostics (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefit package (alternative retirement plans besides the 401k).

    Cons

A company poorly managed that puts patient care on the back burner. Senior leadership had no prior healthcare experience and it shows!

    Advice to Management

First learn the business of healthcare (patients always come first!). Then learn the business of laboratory medicine, way more complex than the regular patient care. Next listen to your employees; top down companies never did well.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Steady income, decent benefits and good vacation, provided there is someone to cover. That is often not the case.

    Cons

Insufficient coverage for requested time off, to the point of some employees losing vacation time. Gross lack of training / orientation for new employees. No communication from management. Current employees are hardly considered for advancement. Lack of uniformity in regards to required procedures, with no indication that standard operation procedures exist. Obvious favoritism regarding overtime. No preventative maintenance performed on vehicles other than oil changes but, corrective maintenance is authorized, provided you have the time to take the vehicle yourself. As you may see, it is very loosely run and morale is extremely low.

    Advice to Management

Essentially, perform the duties for which you are paid. Communicate with the employees and have information meetings / training once in a while. Provide sufficient coverage in order that we may take our earned paid time off.

    Pros

Good training, lots of company resources, great benefits!

    Cons

Old-school. Need to continue pushing the envelope with internal technologies to assist the salesforce better. Really big, so have trouble moving quickly. Find ways to eliminate manual processes for running testing.

    Advice to Management

Find key opinion leaders and improve internal processes.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Wages are very good. The job itself is fairly easy and pleasing to do. The employees are easy to work with.

    Cons

Upper management needs to be worked on.
Advancing opportunities are slim, at least within the department I am in.
    Inconsistency with the department.

    Advice to Management

Some kind of management classes need to be completed prior to anyone being in charge of a group of people. People skills must be worked on and also privacy must be worked on.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of work available. Lots of benefits available. People are friendly. Shifts are available to fit your schedule. Pay is ok.

    Cons

This is a company that is so big that organization and efficiency are often lacking. And when it's pointed out, the reverse effect of micromanagement begins to creep in.
