New senior mgmt is coming in and making changes. More changes are expected (ie layoffs and such)

    Advice to Management

Listen to current mgr team who can give you the inside scoop on ways to improve the company. Don't cut corners just to save money.

    Pros

Good salary and benefits. I mostly had good managers, some better than others, but none that I thought were visionary or particularly inspiring. Most of my coworkers were above average to very good at their jobs.

    Cons

For most of my time at Quest, revenue was declining. So there significant WFRs every year or two. This meant that some of the most talented people left of their own accord. I always got the impression that the folks in upper management were bean counters and never really understood the market or bigger picture of selling commercial software.

    Advice to Management

Now under new ownership, top management needs to get back to being a sales-driven company. Quest has some good products, although in competitive markets.

I worked at Quest Software full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Quest Inc, Formally Dell Software Group, is an organization of varied solutions brought together to provide a portfolio of options for organizations needing assistance with administration and management of their business environments. It is this varied portfolio that allows them to look to position themselves as a valued adviser to their customers.

-Large organization with small business culture mentality
    -Multiple locations across the globe
    -Consistently adding to their portfolio
    -Virtual Office

    Cons

Quest Inc, now formally Dell Software Group, has gone through a couple of divestitures over the past 5-10 years. These changes were done in hopes of putting together a strategic advantage of providing hardware and software as a complete solution. Unfortunately, this never really came to fruition as while having a large and diverse portfolio provides for numerous options, it also seemed to provide a lack of consistency and direction.

-A sense of instability from the organizational paths taken and divestitures in its recent years
    -Lack of consistency
    -No clear career path

    Advice to Management

Overall, Quest is at another crossroads and Management should be upfront to any potential employees about those crossroads along with the new organizational direction being are taken as well.

    Pros

Absolutely great people in the DP business.
Fun work environment and great support from teammates.

    Cons

Management seems to have their hands tied with personnel decisions.
Complete restructuring of sales and go to market strategies. (hopefully this becomes a +)
General uncertainty in the future of the business.
Low pay to some of the best salespeople. Low commissions across the board.

    Advice to Management

Hard to give great advice during a divestiture.
