    Pros

Great products, great management, great sales support staff.

    Cons

Company sold to a Venture Cap firm and tore it apart.

    Advice to Management

Stick with a plan for longer terms. Example: don't do a major restructure/re-alignment that disrupts sales revenue, then change it again 12 months later when the teams have finally figured out how to make the new structure work. Get good people in the Executive roles and KEEP them!

    Pros

good people and a recognized need to innovate

    Cons

years of underinvestment in solutions while under Dell, followed by wholesale replacement of senior leadership by former Attachmate alumni post divestiture, devolved one of the most successful independent software vendors into spare parts.

    Pros

Still some talented loyal people there.

    Cons

They seem to be letting go all the key talent in sales that managed and understand the market place - or drive them out with repositioning (demoting) them with no clear path for anyone to get a promotion. No equity was the last straw for many of the long time talented employees - there are just too many better options out there.

    Advice to Management

shrinking the overall sales team and raising quota when the market is shifting - will drive all decent employees out - not listening to management - making managers have more than 10 employees, not hiring in a timely manner and trusting front line management, and letting resources go that are critical to make things work. The Sales Operations Department is clueless when it comes to people and planning - stop listening to their spreadsheets of useless generalizations and listen to your top well respected people - if there are any left...

    Pros

There used to be great people working on great products - lots of smart individuals, excited to bring great products to market.

    Cons

Since the acquisition, they have really burned through a lot of great talent and their mission seems to be to maximize payout for the very top tier of investors/PE folks. Everyone else should probably find another job...

    Pros

    Great Product Potential. Great Colleagues.

    Cons

No Clear Direction From Management. Lack of Focus Where It Matters (Too Much Turnover In Sales). Lots of Outsourcing (Cutting Costs Seems To Be Most Important)

    Advice to Management

Stop looking at short term goals of cost cutting and trying to drive up the value for value's sake just so you can resell again.

I worked at Quest Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There really were some great, talented people working at the company before the Dell acquisition and while we operating as part of Dell Software Group. The products were a bit stale, but there was line of sight to revamping quite a bit of the portfolio which was promising.

    Cons

As soon as private equity purchased Dell Software and broke out Quest as a separate company, it went down the drain quickly. They ultimately lied to all employees around what the strategy while the true game plan was to fully take advantage of us all. I guess it was all part of their playbook, but it was dirty. Totally understand you want to make money and there were changes that needed to happen, but for God's sake...man up and be honest about what's expected to happen instead of losing trust of everyone involved. Might as well tell the rest of the surviving employees the truth that their days are limited until they get replaced by another one of your old Attachmate cronies or some young (cheap) blood that doesn't know any better. The surviving Quest employees that I still talk to are all miserable and looking for other jobs.

    Advice to Management

Realize this isn't Attachmate. Trying to run the same playbook is bound to fail for you unless you realize the differences and learn to treat people with respect and dignity. Grow a backbone and learn to shoot straight. To the CEO...your leadership skills stink. And for his directs that now 'run' the company, I dare say none of your employees have any trust in your or your abilities to lead the company anywhere but downhill. The old management that you fired and replaced could run circles around you.

I worked at Quest Software full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Quest pays well; opportunity to work with solid talent; great place to start a career in software industry

    Cons

New owners are driven by margin and cost reduction. They don't care about culture and top live revenue. It's a depressing place to work as the company has constantly been in transition for years and all the old-timers that were in the original Quest are all gone. Culture is gone and there is no transparency. If you make too much money, you are gone. This is not a place to have a long-term career.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and foster a culture of transparency and work on developing a new culture.

I have been working at Quest Software full-time

    Pros

    Great Co-Workers and decent products

    Cons

Instability due to constant state of restructuring and lay-offs, lack of vision/communication/transparency from leadership teams, Incoherent strategies for growth, no upward mobility, skewed salary allocation, minimal raises, disjointed inter-team collaboration, weak structure, lack of quality training, little to no innovation, cookie cutter management style that lacks ideas and logical analysis, constant penny pinching lack of investment.

    Advice to Management

Promote based on merit and from within the organization, provide better training programs, stop worrying about short term cost-cutting strategies and really reward your people, focus on bringing in innovative people to change the outdated mindset and culture of the company, hold managers responsible as much as employees, fresh ideas are needed and the current leaders are not up to the mark.
