I worked at QuintilesIMS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The role had a lot of potential, most of it went unrealized given corporate turmoil.

    Cons

You will only be rewarded if you suck up to senior management or work within specific bounds - out of the box or independent thinking will not be rewarded, and will make you a target. This goes especially for women. They prorate new hire bonus potential to 20% of eligible bonus target even if employee has excelled in all projects. Certain people can get on a upward track, everyone else languishes in their current role with little opportunity to get skills to advance. 12-15 hour days are normal. Worked 100hrs multiple weeks straight. Compensation is poor for the work hours expected.

    Advice to Management

    Fire yourselves.

I have been working at QuintilesIMS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting Industry space and lot's of opportunities in solving interesting problems (if the company would only take the advantage of it...)

    Cons

Poor compensation: Under market average salaries, combined with no salary increase.
Leadership not interested in making new products, only interested in the appearance of a product to appease stakeholders and collect their bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Stop marketing "made up products and stories" and actually invest in new products. The industry has a lot of opportunities and there is a lot of room to make your money honestly.

    Pros

Merged company should potentially present more opportunities for career growth. Global company offering a chance to work with colleagues from all over the world.

    Cons

Current corporate leadership style is highly directive, poor work life balance and low employee moral due to constant mergers and acquisitions creating a negative atmosphere in the work place.

Good first step for internship, very good.

    Women are not paid equally.

    Pros

Treat each Center of Excellences as its own business unit.

    Cons

    - CEO socially inept. Managers have to be trained on how to present to accommodate. Lacks any support, management style or respect from employees. Never seen anything like it.
    - An old school mentality / men's club. Holds company back.
    - Use acquisitions to show profit.
    - Loss clients often. A constant scramble to keep them from seeing the lack of direction or proper management.

    Advice to Management

    - Get rid of your Upper Management for some real talent to save this sinking ship.

I worked at QuintilesIMS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's very hard to name a pro. I did enjoy working with a few people here, but the good are leaving in droves, and the company is struggling to keep qualified technical staff.

There was a work from home option, was is fantastic if you want to avoid seeing the craziness.

    Cons

Technology is not a strength of IMS, or Quintiles. Now having two poorly managed technical teams, does not cancel each other out. It compounds the problem. This place has more red tape than the government to get anything done. The only people who succeed in getting any progress made are those that are master manipulators. You don't know who you can trust, and it feels like everyone is lurking with intent to sabotage any progress being made. Too much trust is put into persons who provide little to no value, only because they are crazy good at self promotion. The company moves like molasses to even get started on any project. There are pockets of really good people that are highly under utilized. The process that was forced on everyone only stifles innovation.

    Advice to Management

Get out of Technology, partner with a company like Veeva instead. It's not your strength.

Get rid of the talking heads. These are people who are more hot air than value. If you want to gain trust from your tech staff, you need to put some leadership in place that actually knows what they are talking about. You had several, and you let them leave. It's a damn shame.

    Pros

Health Benifits are average but not much better

    Cons

Very little to no diversity in most departments
    No opportunities to move up
Under paid for level of complexity
    Very stressful
Management has very little experience and will not help you unless forced by higher managemen
The company don't care about the effect this job has on your physical health

    Advice to Management

Allow more diverse candidates into all department's
    Reduce workload
Train management to do the job of their employees
Enhance training program for all employees

I have been working at QuintilesIMS (Less than a year)

    Pros

Smart coworkers and research methodology. People are passionate about giving clients the best work they can given the fact that they are on 5-7 projects at a time.

    Cons

This review is for the Custom Research department. You end up working 70-100 hours a week on 5-7 projects. Salary is below industry standard, especially for advance degree holders like PhDs and MBAs.

Lots of smart people who would excel if the hours were reasonable (50-60 hours). Most people who work in the department don't have children. Young mothers or women who are expecting to have kids in the future really struggle the most here.

The Custom Research branch came from merger with AlphaDetail/AlphaImpact. Looking at the incredibly negative glassdoor reviews for AlphaDetail, it seems like not much has changed.

    Advice to Management

You will save money on turnover and benefit from a more diverse work force by putting people on 3-4 projects (50-60 hour work week). Don't bring over bad habits from AlphaDetail/AlphaImpact.

    Pros

    Excellent Salary, and great client.

    Cons

No company car, thousands of miles to drive, drive time all on your own time, inconsistent promises from hiring manager and manager

    Advice to Management

Stop exploiting employees. When drive time is excessive, you need to provide it.
