I worked at QuintilesIMS part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities, pretty decent salary and benefits. Lots of exceptional people to work with.

    Cons

IMS was a fantastic company when I first joined in 2003, but I saw a major downhill spiral in terms of integrity when the company went private and took on new management. They went on an acquisition tear and hired lots of new blood, especially in the business development functions. The company became way too political, with lots of beaurocracy and plenty of sell-outs. I came to find that the more politically savvy you are (i.e. not afraid to step on people and lie to clients), the faster you will get ahead. I watched some of the best employees get squeezed out or laid off. It just wasn't for me and so I chose to move on.

    Advice to Management

Figure out who your loyal employees are....the ones who have been around and know the products and services best. Those are the ones to take care of and put in front of the customer.

I have been working at QuintilesIMS full-time

    Pros

Good people , good pay, good benefits , good training , good opportunities

    Cons

I would have given 5 stars but since the merger things have gone down . A lot of things are outsourced to other countries which created a huge language barrier and lots of issues (including quality ). Too many hands In the pot ! Seems like all the perks are slowly being taken away with this merger . Never thought about leaving quintiles till this merger . The nice quintiles has turned into not so nice...I wish they would stay true to the Quintiles roots. They are chickens with their heads cut off right now !

    Advice to Management

Get rid of trip report reviewers from other countries with zero clinical experience...hire people who are clinically savvy and who work close to the same time zone not 18 hours difference ! Don't take away all the incentive plans the CRAs used to have !

I worked at QuintilesIMS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Challenging work and nice facilities.

    Cons

Over reliance on off shore resources; no company paid education or professional enrichment; senior management overly focused on short term gains.

    Advice to Management

It's apalling how the local technical staff has been desimated in favor of cheap offshore resources that have no knowledge of this highly technical companies subject matter to the point of jeopardizing the abilty to support critical systems and processes just to save a buck.

I worked at QuintilesIMS full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Incredible talent is working at Quintiles and many of the staff are truly committed to their customers. It is senior management lack of understanding that affects moral. Truly a wealth of great staff.

    Cons

Lack of employee focus which fosters an unhealthy working environment. Decisions on staff are not based on skill set but more on whom you are friends with.

    Advice to Management

Know the effects of decisions and how changes affect the down stream process and customer delivery.

I have been working at QuintilesIMS full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It is a very large company so they offer a lot of training and education assistance. There is a lot of room for advancement and they are generally are very good about helping you climb the ladder you choose. The benefits are fantastic and if you are with the right sponsor, you do not have to travel as much as the average CRA. Everyone is assigned to a team, which really helps you to have plenty of 'go-to' people when you need assistance with anything.

    Cons

The raises are pitiful, but the annual bonuses are better than average. If you want to change models within the company, it is like changing companies because it is so large. If you do not know someone in the model, it is difficult to even get an interview. My overall rating before the merger with IMS would have been a five star.

    Advice to Management

Consider providing better raises for your CRAs before another company offers them a better salary.

I worked at QuintilesIMS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salaries are decent, pension, paid time off.

    Cons

Company culture is bad, and HR Management is awful.

    Advice to Management

Send management to mandatory training to learn how to manage people effectively, and how to motivate employees and recognize them when warranted.
