I worked at Rödl & Partner full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have worked at Rödl & Partner in the Chicago office for 6 years, and it has been a positively challenging and rewarding experience. Upper management is treating their employees fair and friendly with an open door policy for any problems or concerns. During busy season you spend a lot of time with your colleagues, thus team work is very important and emphasized. The work itself is very interesting and diverse. Audit, tax and accounting work rotates throughout the year. The company offers various possibilities for training and personal enhancement. Work-life-balance is very accommodating for the public accounting sector, and promotions are achievable without having to work unreasonably crazy hours. Last but not least, it is also very fun to party with the colleagues and management, especially when celebrating the end of busy season. You know when you have found the right employer: when it is Sunday evening and you are not dreading going back the next day.

    Cons

No cons, it has been a truly amazing time working for this company.

    Advice to Management

Stay close to your employees. They are the ones who will lift you even higher. But you know that already.

I worked at Rödl & Partner full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Significant exposure to both taxation and assurance services. If you are a college graduate who is unsure of which side of public accounting to pursue, this firm will surely help you decide through the exposure to both services.
    - Great diversity amongst staff, great camaraderie, and great culture.
    - Ability to manage own schedule in non-busy season months
    - Excellent staff development as there are sufficient opportunities to work directly under and learn from upper-management and partners.

    Cons

    - If specializing in a particular arena is a short-term goal, you may encounter some challenge if you are a young professional.

    Advice to Management

    - Continue to operate the foundation of the firm's business model. If any advice on improvement, attempt to notice early on the strengths and weaknesses of young staff - most importantly their overall performance between taxation and assurance - and direct them in one path (tax or audit) by the 2-3 year mark.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Salary, compensation and benefits are fair.

    Cons

Very challenging for females to be promoted or taken seriously from male dominated partner group. Not ethical- a CPA/Partner runs the recruiting and hiring process, with no HR background or knowledge of employment laws. A lot of turnover, even for a public accounting firm.

    Pros

Better work life balance than Big 4, but not great due to travel to clients. Good range of experience.

    Cons

Very little mentorship offered by most experienced members, who prefer to distance themselves from the staff.

    I worked at Rödl & Partner full-time

    Pros

Good Salary- Room to Grow- Professional Work- Good reputation in industry for complex work

    Cons

It can feel like complete isolation. Unless you know German, you can feel out of place. That is all they speak in the office. It could be about you, you would not know. Co workers can be mean.
