I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Global Company with "offices" all over

    Cons

Poor leadership. No training at all. HR unresponsive and 1,000 miles away. This was easily the worst managed company I've ever worked for. To be fair, there are multiple locations and set ups, so they may not all be the same. The insurance was also horrible for such a large company.

    Advice to Management

All of your employees whether at an FM site or concrete location deserve attention and care.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    There are always available positions

    Cons

Unqualified upper management sit in cushy offices and look down on overworked employees. Horrible, horrible benefits. Health insurance was a joke.

    Advice to Management

    Be human.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people for the most part but the office is full of internal politics which happens on the phone or behind closed doors.

    Cons

Management is full of misguided misdirected communications... this is when they speak which is not often. Be ready to jump in the river without a boat or paddle.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the senior experience you have on staff, Our employees teach us more than we teach them.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good coworkers, interesting work, mostly.

    Cons

Big and very impersonal company. Try and make you feel "part of the team" until it's time to cut cost and you're discarded like a fast food wrapper. Then they get their branch in India to to take up the slack.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget that PEOPLE work for you. My own supervisor was in tears we she told me that the upper mgmt folks told her to cut me loose. She had no say in the matter.

    Pros

Good systems and resources. The RRD name carries clout with vendors. Continuous reduction of management and supervisors meant those of us who were left wore a lot of hats, which gave me some great experience.

    Cons

Continuous reduction of management and supervisors meant those of us who were left wore TOO MANY hats. Lots of stress, tons of hours, difficult to make any real progress. Felt like we were just treading water most of the time.

    Advice to Management

You are losing a lot of good people because they feel like there's no future at this company.

    Pros

You will learn a great deal about the industry - Do's AND Dont's.

    Cons

Unfortunately, you learn the Dont's from leadership of how NOT to treat your subordinates. As long as the bottom line is met, who cares about your feelings - take it or leave it, back to work.

    Advice to Management

Reward the good productive employees with PAY (like an industry leader should), NOT with MORE work. Address work/life balance (l ike an industry leader should) or those same good employees will continue to leave.

I have been working at R.R. Donnelley (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are nice to work with, and they are always willing to help each other out. The days go by fast.

    Cons

Politics and sucking up will get you far. Hard work will get you nowhere. Stand around and talk all day, and you will be rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in technology. The systems that employees work on are antiquated and are always running slowly.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice working on site for a big brand

    Cons

Not big on communicating internal change

    Advice to Management

Hopefully it's changed for the better since 2014 - but then, it was the blind management leading creative.

    Pros

    Decent pay
    Decent benefits
    Great co-workers
    Separation package is great

    Cons

People are not important and are totally expendible. No appreciation for dedication and hard work. They are more interested in buying more companies. It is a shame in today's economy that they are laying people off to outsource work. Morale is horrible. Insurance is expensive.
